Texas Southern University Partners with C1 to Launch Cybersecurity Lab for Future Professionals

Empowering the Next Generation of Cybersecurity Experts

In an innovative partnership, Texas Southern University (TSU) and C1, a global authority in technology solutions, have initiated a groundbreaking program aimed at revolutionizing the educational landscape for cybersecurity professionals. The centerpiece of this collaboration is the establishment of a cutting-edge Cybersecurity Lab at TSU, meticulously co-designed by C1 specialists and TSU students. This facility empowers students with invaluable hands-on experience, equipping them with the skills necessary for the rapidly evolving field of cybersecurity.

The Cybersecurity Lab serves as an interactive environment where students have the opportunity to work with enterprise-grade equipment, engage in immersive training sessions, and receive guidance from industry mentors. This program not only offers students the chance for paid internships but also allows them to shadow C1 engineers during real installations of crucial networking infrastructure like firewalls and switches. Moreover, students are encouraged to pursue recognized certifications in cybersecurity, enhancing their qualifications.

Dr. Claudius Claiborne, the Acting Dean of TSU's Jesse H. Jones School of Business, emphasized the significance of this practical experience, stating, "What excites us about this initiative is that it transcends theoretical learning. Our students are getting firsthand exposure to the tools and challenges faced in today’s cybersecurity landscape. With the support of C1, our graduates will be better prepared to enter the workforce seamlessly."

Following the successful model of the Jesse H. Jones School of Business’s Future Bankers Leadership Program, which prepares students for careers in banking, this new cybersecurity initiative seamlessly integrates technical training with essential soft skills and mentorship. This holistic approach ensures that graduates not only possess academic knowledge but also the practical skills and professional networks required to stand out in an increasingly competitive job market.

By the time students complete their studies, they will have not only acquired essential coursework and certifications but developed meaningful experiences and connections within the industry that will help differentiate them in their job searches.
