Unveiling New Markets: Roadmap and Technology Trends for DAC Innovations

JPI Seminar on Direct Air Capture (DAC) Technology

On August 22, 2025, the Japan Planning Institute (JPI) will host a seminar featuring Professor Seiji Yamazoe from the Graduate School of Science at Tokyo Metropolitan University. The topic of this seminar will be "New Markets Opened by DAC: Roadmap to Commercialization and Latest Technological Trends."

Seminar Overview

In the pursuit of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, efficient methods for capturing carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere are crucial. The seminar will delve into the advancements and developments surrounding Direct Air Capture (DAC) technology, which focuses on extracting low-concentration CO2 (approximately 430 ppm) effectively. Currently, the development of DAC processes utilizing solid adsorbents and calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)2) has been underway, but there is a pressing need for technologies that operate with lower energy consumption and cost.

During the seminar, attendees will gain insights into the technological progress aimed at capturing CO2 at low concentrations, with a special emphasis on the high-speed CO2 absorption technologies our research lab is developing, which utilize liquid-solid phase separation phenomena and solid CO2 adsorbents with immobilized amino groups.
