Learn Practical Techniques for Mechanical Drawing
The IR Technical Engineer Education Institute is hosting a public seminar aimed at enhancing the skills required for creating mechanical drawings that effectively encompass the fields of processing, measurement, material, and surface treatment. By grounding the content in JIS drawing standards, participants will learn strategies and practical techniques to better incorporate real-world information into their designs.
Although adhering to JIS drawing standards is necessary, not every scenario encountered in the field is covered by norms or textbooks. Insufficient knowledge of processing and measurement can lead to misinterpretation of the drawings, added verification processes, rework, and ultimately increased costs. Additionally, the retirement of veteran engineers and the separation between design and manufacturing departments have reduced opportunities for younger engineers to gain insights from the processing environment. Therefore, there is a pressing need to supplement the JIS rules with practical knowledge related to processing and measurement when creating drawings.

Detailed Course Content
Participants in this seminar will first revisit the fundamentals of JIS drawing standards and learn how to systematically organize non-standard field information for inclusion in their drawings. The goal is for designers, processors, and measurement personnel alike to have a clear and unified understanding of the content in the drawings, facilitating smoother operations. Through systematic study from themes such as materials, processing methods, measurement, dimensions, and annotations, attendees will gain insights traditionally held by veteran designers.

Fundamentals and Applications of Drafting
- Start with the basics: adhering to JIS standards
- Incorporate your ideas for information not covered by JIS
- Create highly refined drawings by including omitted on-site information (this is the seminar's goal)

Drawings Reflecting Design Intent
- What does a drawing reflecting design intent look like?
- Assembly criteria and functional criteria
- Can design intent be expressed solely through dimensions?
3.
Incorporating Design Elements into Drawings
- Design elements of block-shaped components
- Design elements of shafts and cylindrical materials
- Design elements of angle blocks, among others

Integrating Processing Knowledge into Drawings
- (1) Material knowledge
- (2) Cutting operations (lathe and milling)
- (3) Hole processing
- (4) Special processing (EDM and laser processing)
- (5) Grinding processing
- (6) Sheet metal processing
- (7) Heat treatment and plating

Techniques to Elevate Drawings
- Techniques for expressing the function of holes
- Clearly indicating the required regions or parts
- Techniques for clear dimensioning by process
Target Audience
This seminar is designed for engineers involved in product development, design, and planning in the manufacturing industry, particularly those with 4 to 7 years of practical experience in mechanical design and drafting.
