Exciting Baseball Clinic Leads to Cultural Exchange in Singapore

A Bridge to the Asian Baseball Championship

From November 22 to 24, the NB.ACADEMY, located in Shibuya, Tokyo, successfully hosted a baseball clinic in Singapore featuring former MLB player and once head coach of the Saitama Seibu Lions, Kazuo Matsui. This initiative was aimed at promoting baseball across Asia and preparing for the upcoming 2nd Asia High School Baseball Championship in Jakarta, Indonesia, scheduled for December 13 to 20.

A Valuable Experience for Young Players

During the event, Singaporean children had the incredible opportunity to receive training directly from a baseball legend. The clinic emphasized the themes of “challenge,” “companionship,” and “growth,” allowing children to engage in valuable learning and cultural exchange through baseball.

Voices from Participants

A child expressed excitement, saying, "I learned the basics of defense from Matsui, and now I love baseball even more! I understand how to use my glove and move my feet better, and I can't wait for the next practice!"

A parent commented, "We received coaching on defense techniques that are typically not accessible. It was a rare opportunity for my child to learn the essence of baseball, and I felt the baseball enthusiasm in the community growing even stronger."

Remarks from Kazuo Matsui

Kazuo Matsui shared, "I have known about the Asia High School Baseball Championship for a while, but it brings me great joy that I could come to foreign lands and contribute directly. Witnessing the bright eyes of the children fueled my own desire and excitement for baseball. I hope they leave with a passion to improve their skills. The warm, inspiring people I met during the dinner were incredibly engaged in this project, and I was touched to see the connections formed. This initiative connects children and adults across borders, allowing us all to grow together, and I feel it’s a wonderful endeavor — the Asia High School Baseball Championship. I aim to support its expansion moving forward."

Comments from Corporate Partners

Satoshi Okamura, Director of Pan Asia Advisors, remarked, "We greatly appreciate Matsui taking the time to come to Singapore and coach children of various ages. Many of the kids expressed their excitement to see highlights from Matsui's playing career, and it was heartwarming to see them seriously engage in play. We even extended the batting training for nearly an hour beyond the schedule. Although baseball is still a relatively minor sport in Southeast Asia, I hope this event inspires even more children to take an interest in playing."

Future Prospects

As the NB.ACADEMY prepares for the 2nd Asia High School Baseball Championship in Jakarta from December 13 to 20, baseball promotion activities in Southeast Asia are placed at the forefront of our initiatives. Having already conducted events in Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Vietnam, we plan to continue offering baseball clinics and exchange programs. These activities not only aim to nurture future players but also strengthen community bonds, forming a crucial foundation for the success of the Asia High School Baseball Championship. We are committed to deepening connections with children, coaches, and sponsoring companies across various countries, contributing to the promotion and development of baseball culture throughout Southeast Asia.
