Announcing the 12th Fish-1 Grand Prix Culinary Contest for Domestic Seafood

Get Ready for the 12th Fish-1 Grand Prix

The highly anticipated 12th Fish-1 Grand Prix, a nationwide contest focusing on domestic seafood cuisine, is set to take place on December 6, 2026, in the Odaiba Aomi area of Koto, Tokyo. This gastronomic event will occur alongside the renowned SAKANA & JAPAN FESTIVAL 2026 in Odaiba, marking an exciting fusion of culinary exploration and cultural celebration.

Emphasizing Local Seafood

Since its inception in 2013, the Fish-1 Grand Prix has aimed to enhance the visibility of Japan's local seafood while promoting the consumption of domestic marine products. Throughout the years, the contest has evolved significantly, showcasing the uniqueness and quality of various fish varieties. Participants will compete not only with their signature dishes but also with lesser-known fish types and local seafood products.

Participants consist of eight selected teams who will prepare and sell their dishes on-site using kitchen cars. Winners, selected by both the audience and a panel of judges, will be announced at the event, adding an element of excitement and camaraderie that brings together seafood lovers from all corners of Japan.

Contest Goals and Themes

This year's contest theme, "Highlighting the Charm of Local Seafood to Inspire Visits to Production Areas for Seafood Cuisine", aims to connect participants' culinary creations to the promotion of Japan's diverse seafood resources. Chefs are encouraged to create dishes that leave consumers yearning to visit the production areas where these ingredients hail from, ultimately fostering regional development through gastronomy.

Beyond the Contest

Moreover, the purpose of the Fish-1 Grand Prix extends beyond the event. Aiming for the growth of seafood consumption through 'local products for local consumption', the event seeks to invigorate coastal regions and fishing ports. To support this noble endeavor, participants of the contest will have the potential to receive financial assistance for initiatives promoting visits to their respective local production areas.

The winning dish will also earn the right to a significant promotional opportunity valued at one million yen, in addition to the glory of winning the grand prix. This can include booth displays at events, integration into restaurant menus, product commercialization, or even collaboration with influential figures on social media to amplify reach and engagement.

How to Apply

The submission process involves a thorough screening, culminating in the final eight contenders chosen from the applicants.
