Nespresso and Project Healthy Minds Join Forces on National Coffee Day
On September 29, 2025, Nespresso in partnership with Project Healthy Minds dedicated National Coffee Day to examining the positive relationship between coffee rituals and mental wellbeing. A recent survey by Kantar highlights the critical role that morning routines, specifically involving coffee, play in shaping mental health throughout the day.
The Power of Morning Rituals
The findings from the survey are compelling. Over
90% of participants reported that their morning routines significantly affect their mental wellness for the entire day. Additionally,
77% of those surveyed identified coffee as an essential element of their morning routine. This speaks volumes about how coffee is valued not just as a beverage, but as a tool for enhancing mental clarity and focus early in the day.
When asked why coffee is integral to their mornings,
33% mentioned it helps them kickstart focus and mental alertness. Another
33% noted that coffee fuels their energy, while a further
25% stated that it provides a crucial moment for mindfulness before they tackle the day's demands.
Alfonso Gonzalez Loeschen, CEO of Nespresso North America, emphasized this connection:
"At Nespresso, we believe that coffee is more than a beverage—and the survey results show just how universal the value of a cherished coffee moment is." He elaborated that fostering a mindful morning routine can set a positive tone for the day.
Challenges in Creating Mindful Morning Moments
However, the survey also identified obstacles that prevent individuals from cultivating more mindful mornings. Many respondents noted that busy schedules hinder their ability to dedicate time to wellness-focused routines. Despite demanding schedules, a remarkable
81% of those who limit their morning processes to under thirty minutes still incorporate their morning coffee.
Interestingly,
42% of participants invest their limited morning time in social media scrolling, while only
23% engage in meditation or other mindfulness activities. This indicates that while coffee provides a welcome moment for reflection, distractions continue to dominate many people's first waking hours.
As anxiety levels have risen for
47% of Americans in the past six months, harnessing the act of enjoying coffee as a mini ritual can help reclaim a moment of calm and reset.
Phil Schermer, the CEO and Founder of Project Healthy Minds, stressed the significance of simple daily habits in supporting mental health, saying:
"This National Coffee Day, we're thrilled to partner with Nespresso to highlight how simple daily rituals — like enjoying a cup of coffee — can support mental wellbeing."
Cultural and Generational Trends in Coffee Consumption
The survey not only unveiled the psychological benefits of coffee but also its broad cultural appeal. Millennials and Gen Z emerge as the most likely cohorts to include coffee in their morning routines, with
84% of Millennials and
78% of Gen Z affirming its importance. In contrast, Baby Boomers appeared inclined to view coffee drinking as a habitual practice, with
53% citing it as a fixture in their mornings compared to only
25% of Gen Z respondents.
To mark this National Coffee Day, Nespresso and Project Healthy Minds encourage coffee enthusiasts to establish intentional routines that lead to healthier and happier days. Project Healthy Minds is set to orchestrate its fourth annual World Mental Health Day Festival on October 10 in New York City—an event focused on sparking conversations to pave the way for future mental health innovations. Nespresso will be present at the festival, providing coffee and facilitating morning mindfulness exercises to engage attendees.
Conclusion
With insights gathered from a representative sample of 1,000 adults aged 18-64 living in the U.S., this collaboration between Nespresso and Project Healthy Minds marks an important step in promoting mental health awareness through achievable daily rituals.
