Capitol Battle of The Bands Returns This September
The excitement is palpable as the Capitol Battle of The Bands (Capitol BOTB) makes its grand return, set to take place on September 28, 2025. This year’s event promises to be bigger and better, electrifying the atmosphere at SECU Stadium in College Park, Maryland. The event will be hosted by the talented Jabari Banks, renowned for his role in Peacock’s acclaimed series,
Bel-Air, and a promising music artist with his debut EP,
Ultra. In a strategic partnership,
IKEA has stepped in as the Presenting Sponsor, emphasizing their commitment to supporting local communities and celebrating cultural heritage.
A Celebration of Culture and Music
Capitol BOTB showcases the brilliance and artistry of
Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), offering an exciting platform that reinforces pride and community. Alongside Jabari Banks and IKEA, several other sponsors play critical roles this year, including Wegmans, Xfinity University Tour, Maryland Lottery, Academy of Hope Adult Public Charter School, and Prince George’s County Council. The inclusion of the
Motion Picture Association (MPA), in conjunction with its industry partner,
EICOP, will add to the event’s value by hosting a workshop focused on career opportunities in the film, TV, and streaming industries for students.
As in past years, the Capitol BOTB will highlight performances from nine exceptional HBCU marching bands, including Hampton, Howard, Morgan State, Norfolk State, Virginia State, Bowie State, North Carolina Central, North Carolina AT, and Winston-Salem State. Each band will dazzle the audience with their stunning traditions, artistry, and unyielding passion that characterize the HBCU band experience.
The Event Lineup
Gates will open at 3:30 PM for
Stadium Fest, a vibrant vendor market designed to spotlight local and small businesses while featuring interactive sponsor activations. Kicking off at 5:00 PM, the main event will transform SECU Stadium into an extraordinary stage for music and culture. Attendees can expect an unforgettable evening filled with rhythmic performances, community engagement, and a celebration of talent.
A Movement Beyond Music
Rodney Chambers, Executive Director of Capitol BOTB, expressed the essence of the event, stating,
'The Capitol Battle of The Bands is more than just a show—it's a movement that brings people together to celebrate the excellence of HBCU culture.' He further emphasized that the partnership with Jabari Banks and IKEA elevates the event, allowing it to honor its rich traditions while projecting a vision for the future.
Produced by
High Stepping Nationals, a nonprofit dedicated to enhancing music education and the performing arts in minority and inner-city schools, as well as HBCUs, Capitol BOTB has been a key player in hosting national marching band competitions and outreach initiatives since 2002.
This year, Capitol BOTB invites audiences to join in on an experience that not only entertains but also educates and inspires the next generation of artists. For more details and updates on the lineup, visit
