Nordic Semiconductor Expands Cellular IoT Product Line at MWC 2026

Nordic Semiconductor Expands Cellular IoT Product Line at MWC 2026

At the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2026 in Barcelona, Nordic Semiconductor, a renowned name in low-power wireless connectivity, unveiled a significant expansion of its cellular IoT portfolio. This release highlights their commitment to fostering secure, global connectivity as both terrestrial and satellite networks evolve.

Next-Generation Cellular Innovations

The company introduced the nRF92 and nRF93 Series alongside enhancements to its existing nRF91 Series. This expansion aims to provide developers with a comprehensive platform that supports billions of devices with trusted and energy-efficient solutions.

nRF92 Series – The Future of LTE-M/NB-IoT and Satellite NTN

The nRF92 Series represents the forefront of cellular solutions, integrating high-performance application microcontrollers (MCUs) with ultra-low-power edge AI capabilities, leveraging Nordic's advanced Axon NPUs (Neural Processing Units). This combination empowers an array of applications, including smart meters, trackers, and wearables that require multi-year battery life. Lead sampling for these products is already underway, with general availability anticipated by early 2027.

nRF93 Series – Enhanced LTE Cat 1 Bis Solutions

The newly launched nRF93M1 modules provide advanced features such as higher throughput rates of 10 Mbps downlink and 5 Mbps uplink. These modules are designed to support global LTE networks while maintaining Nordic’s hallmark of low power consumption. Ideal for applications like asset tracking and security devices, the nRF93M1 modules promise easy integration with Nordic’s cloud services, enhancing observability and debugging capabilities. Customers are already working on leveraging these modules, with a rollout expected in mid-2026.

nRF91 Series – Existing Products with New Features

The nRF91 Series is also making strides with enhanced features, now supporting both GEO and LEO satellite NTN connectivity. This is particularly valuable for industries reliant on logistics and remote infrastructure. The newly introduced nRF9151 module ensures continued connectivity thanks to its sub-GHz fallback capabilities. Moreover, the nRF91M1 module offers a user-friendly smart modem solution that rapidly facilitates cellular connectivity.

Vision for 5G eRedCap

In line with future technologies, Nordic has begun collaborating with leading customers to explore next-generation 5G eRedCap capabilities. This initiative is part of Nordic's strategic effort to build ultra-low-power cellular technologies that cater to various IoT usage scenarios, ensuring a comprehensive roadmap as networking requirements continue to evolve.

A Commitment to Developers

Oyvind Birkenes, Nordic Semiconductor’s Executive Vice President for Long-Range, emphasized that this expansion is a pivotal moment for the company, providing developers with a clear and reliable strategy for the future. This includes a market-leading portfolio that delivers clarity and confidence in an ever-changing landscape.
