F-Pico's Significant Eco Initiative Milestone
In a major announcement, F-Pico Co., Ltd., a prominent manufacturer of food trays and containers based in Shinjuku, Tokyo, has successfully surpassed 5,000 stores in its collaborative initiative termed 'Store to Store'. This innovative project, aimed at enhancing sustainability in Japan, involves retail companies predominantly in the supermarket sector working alongside F-Pico to boost their recycling efforts.
Journey to 5,000 Stores
F-Pico first embarked on this eco-friendly journey back in November 2022 with a collaborative declaration involving the Chinese grocery chain, Shijishi. Over the past three and a half years, companies that share the vision of fostering a sustainable society have joined hands with F-Pico to strengthen the collection of used food trays and PET bottles while promoting environmental education activities. The collaborative efforts have successfully expanded the recyclability cycle, becoming a nationwide movement representative of local enterprises. Over 140 companies have actively participated in this collaborative declaration, highlighting the widespread commitment to environmental sustainability.
Understanding the Eco Store Collaboration
The Eco Store collaboration declaration signifies a commitment from retail companies to set environmental goals actively and work closely with F-Pico. One of the core components of this initiative is the robust recycling model known as 'Store to Store', which allows stores to collect used food trays and PET bottles. F-Pico utilizes its unique 'Tray to Tray' and 'Bottle to Clear Container' recycling systems to transform these materials back into eco-friendly products that can be reused in the same stores where they were collected, creating a cycle within the community.
The resources recovered through this process are reborn as eco-products, such as 'Eco Tray', 'Eco APET', and 'Eco OPET', which significantly reduce CO2 emissions compared to products made from virgin petroleum-derived materials.
Future Prospects
Expansion of Eco Store Collaboration
Looking ahead, F-Pico aims to broaden this initiative to encompass 300 companies and 10,000 stores. The company is dedicated to advancing the role of each participating store as an 'Eco Leader' within its community. Through this initiative, F-Pico plans to continue reducing environmental impact by working collaboratively with retail partners and local stakeholders to achieve a sustainable society.
Enhancing Educational Activities in Collaboration with Retailers
1.
Environmental Lessons in Elementary Schools: Many regions will host environmental education sessions (recycling lessons) targeted at young students.
2.
Donations of Educational Manga: In partnership with Gakken, F-Pico will donate educational manga titled 'Secrets of Food Trays' to local elementary schools.
3.
Family Participation Tours and Store Events: F-Pico will conduct tours to its recycling facilities, along with environmental awareness events such as recycling classes in stores.
4.
Information Dissemination at Storefronts: Each store aims to engage the community with active campaigns that herald them as local eco-leaders. This includes displaying eco collaboration posters and utilizing digital signage to communicate recycling information to customers.
Through these initiatives, F-Pico and retail companies are committed to fostering greater understanding of recycling within local communities, striving towards a more sustainable future.
