Promoting Cleanliness in Osaka: The Zero Waste Project
On May 30th, which is recognized as '530 Zero Waste Day', a joint cleaning activity was held in Osaka, collaborating with the 'OSAKA Zero Waste Project'. This initiative, spearheaded by Duskin and Lawson, aimed to enhance the area's cleanliness and environmental beauty.
The cleanup was hosted around the Esaka station vicinity, featuring enthusiastic participation from a total of 228 individuals. This included 154 members from local community councils and 74 employees from surrounding businesses, comprising staff from both Duskin and Lawson. Together, they managed to collect approximately 42 kilograms of trash, contributing to the mission of a cleaner community.
Community Involvement
Before the cleaning commenced, Mr. Kamitani from the Esaka Union Community Association expressed his gratitude to participants, stating, "It's heartening to see so many community members responding positively to businesses aiming to enhance our local environment. I'm thrilled about the collaborative efforts between companies and residents to maintain our scenic streets."
Participants observed that even in areas that often seem clean, a different perspective revealed hidden litter. One local noted, "I never noticed how much waste was actually around unless I looked closely. I'm glad we could contribute to reducing it."
Partnership for a Greener Osaka
Duskin and Lawson have established a comprehensive partnership with Osaka Prefecture, working collaboratively across various sectors such as environmental conservation, child welfare, safety, and the promotion of local governance. The joint cleanup was a significant effort under the 'OSAKA Zero Waste Project', reinforcing their ongoing commitment to improving the living conditions for residents in Osaka.
Feedback and Future Initiatives
Mr. Masato Miyawaki, Head of General Affairs at Duskin, who oversaw the event commented, "The Osaka-Kansai Expo is hosted here, but it is essential to maintain the beauty of the city beyond just the venue. Today's activity presents an opportunity to collaborate with everyone in making this wonderful city shine even brighter."
