Turner & Townsend Appoints Hisanao Kajiura as Japan CEO to Strengthen Consulting Services

Turner & Townsend's New Leadership in Japan

On June 1st, Turner & Townsend Ltd., a global consulting service provider headquartered in Minato, Tokyo, announced the appointment of Hisanao Kajiura as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for its Japanese entity. Kajiura brings with him over 28 years of extensive experience in managing complex international construction projects across various countries including Japan, the UK, Qatar, Sri Lanka, and Djibouti. His previous role saw him leading the project management team at CBRE Group for nearly a decade, where he served as the North Asia head of project management and later became the president of CBRE CM Solutions.

Kajiura's background equips him with the necessary insights to navigate the complexities of large-scale projects that multinational clients often face, encompassing intricate technical and contractual requirements as well as regional considerations. After the integration with CBRE Project Management, scheduled to be completed in April 2025, he will lead a professional team of over 270 members at Turner & Townsend, revitalizing their consulting capabilities.

With this structural enhancement, the company aims to provide a more comprehensive range of consulting services for all construction projects. The areas of focus include not only asset management for offices, hotels, data centers, manufacturing facilities, research hubs, logistics centers, retail spaces, sports venues, and entertainment facilities but also urban development, infrastructure, energy, and natural resource facilities. The unified team will offer diverse consulting services centered around program management, project management, and cost management, ensuring integrated support for clients’ needs, from project conception to completion.

In a statement by Hisanao Kajiura, he expressed his honor in leading such an exceptional team and emphasized the importance of building strong partnerships with clients through integrated business strategies. He aims to provide top-tier services in project management, program management, and cost management, ensuring that clients are supported through complex challenges to achieve project success. Kajiura recognizes the current Japanese market as a mature environment full of opportunities, characterized by its inherent stability, making it an attractive destination for investments. His priority will be to leverage the profound market knowledge of his team to offer accurate advice, helping clients seize these opportunities while delivering world-class services across various projects.

Comments from Brian Shuptrine, Asia Managing Director, welcome Kajiura as the CEO of the Japanese operations, highlighting the timely nature of his appointment amid a period of economic change. The hospitality industry, rising demand for data centers, and the expansion of clean energy solutions make this a pivotal moment for Japan. Amid challenges such as rising costs, labor shortages, and supply chain constraints within the construction industry, Shuptrine emphasized the enhanced team's readiness under Kajiura's leadership to support clients in successfully executing complex, large-scale projects with more effective structures.

Turner & Townsend operates its end-to-end service across the nation from its bases in Tokyo and Osaka, providing streamlined support from planning major projects and programs to their execution.
