Midea Showcases R290 Leadership and Sustainable HVAC Innovations at IFA 2026

In a significant demonstration of its commitment to environmental sustainability, Midea has unveiled an impressive range of HVAC solutions and energy management systems at the IFA 2026. The company has made notable advancements in sustainable heating and cooling technologies, particularly through its innovative use of R290 refrigerant, aligning with its vision of a "green future."

Advancements in R290 Technology

Midea has established itself as a global leader in R290-based air conditioners, maintaining this status for over sixteen consecutive years. The company has adeptly refined its compressor technologies to enhance performance and safety. R290's potential for global warming is remarkably low, with CO2 emissions nearly at zero, coupled with a 10% improvement in energy efficiency. At the Midea booth, visitors could view a transparent model that showcased the operational aspects of R290 technology, illustrating that environmental responsibility complements superior performance.

Since 2018, Midea has successfully sold more than 10 million R290 air conditioners, which is estimated to have resulted in a reduction of around 5.2 million tons of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions. This impressive impact on the environment correlates to the carbon absorption capacity of approximately 6.2 million hectares of Amazon rainforest.

Introduction of H-Pack

Among the stellar offerings featured at the event is the H-Pack, a next-generation indoor heat pump developed by Midea's European research and development team. Its compact design eliminates the need for an outdoor unit, addressing common homeowner concerns such as external noise and installation restrictions. This model’s design is particularly installer-friendly, simplifying maintenance, while remote diagnostics afford technicians the ability to troubleshoot issues remotely, thereby minimizing maintenance visits and costs. The H-Pack supports both hybrid and fully electric heating modes, providing European households with enhanced flexibility and efficiency.

Another novel solution presented was the PortaSplit, demonstrated in a realistic European residential context. Known for its straightforward configuration and high performance coupled with quiet operation, the PortaSplit enables users to bypass costly installation processes while ensuring comfort in their interiors. It is anticipated to adopt the R290 refrigerant by 2027.

Introducing the Innovative VitaBreeze

Midea's new VitaBreeze product was awarded the IFA 2026 Technology Innovation Award, highlighting its pioneering approach to intelligent airflow management. Ralph Kobsik, General Manager of Midea Europe GmbH, accepted the award, reaffirming the company’s focus on innovative solutions. VitaBreeze features
