BAE Systems Advances Army Training with OneArc Integration



BAE Systems has made a significant stride in military training by securing an Other Transaction Agreement contract with the U.S. Army to implement its Embedded Collective Training (ECT) solution on a platoon of combat vehicles located at Fort Hood, Texas. This initiative is a crucial aspect of the Army's Force Development Innovation Assessment (FDIA) program, aiming to equip soldiers with practical training that is directly integrated into the vehicles they operate.

The ECT solution stands out as the first commercially available embedded training system installed in U.S. Army combat vehicles. According to Sergeant First Class Patrick Muir from the 1st Cavalry Division, the capability to train flexibly, regardless of location, is a game changer. "Crews need the ability to train wherever the mission requires, without being tied to fixed simulator facilities," Muir stated. This adaptability allows commanders to maintain and enhance mission readiness while minimizing the costs and logistical challenges associated with traditional training infrastructures.

Throughout the FDIA event, Army crews will undergo extensive training covering various precision gunnery tasks that are vital for platform qualification. This encompasses everything from weapon use to crew-level validation of embedded training tools on active combat platforms. Historically, the implementation of embedded training systems has lagged behind the deployment of combat vehicles, often taking years to materialize. This delay has forced military units to rely on expensive live-fire ranges or separate simulators that lack integration with real-world vehicle operations.

By embedding the training system directly into combat vehicles, the Army aims to shorten the time between the introduction of new capabilities and actual combat readiness. As Rahul Thakkar, President of BAE Systems OneArc, explained, "integrating a commercial embedded trainer directly on a combat platform already in the fight provides a replicable framework for combining new equipment with training from the outset."

This new approach reshapes the military’s concept of training, turning it into an inherent capability rather than just a preparatory step before deployment. The ECT kits are designed for scalability, initially focusing on individual crew training, but with the potential to evolve into platoon-level collective training and tactical maneuvering in subsequent phases.

The embedded training concept also extends to other ground platforms, whether crewed or uncrewed, securing a standardized pathway for integrated training across the diverse capabilities and partners within the OneArc ecosystem.
