Elsight Enhances Phoenix Air Unmanned's Pipeline Patrol with Robust Connectivity Solutions

Elsight, an established leader in connectivity solutions for unmanned and autonomous systems, is making waves with its innovative technology that has recently aided Phoenix Air Unmanned (PAU) in a remarkable mission. In a significant achievement, PAU successfully conducted a 320-mile pipeline patrol on behalf of Shell Pipeline Company (SPLC) in just 7.6 hours, utilizing a single unmanned aircraft system (UAS).

At the heart of this accomplishment is Elsight's cutting-edge communication platform, Halo. Designed for beyond-visual-line-of-sight (BVLOS) operations, Halo is a lightweight yet powerful system that ensures a secure and uninterrupted connection to command and control links. This advanced solution aggregates multiple IP links, integrating both public and private cellular technologies, satellite, and RF technologies. Such comprehensive connectivity proves essential for maintaining reliable communication during missions, even in challenging environments where traditional methods may falter.

Will Wheeler, the Director of Operations for Phoenix Air Unmanned, commented on the transformative impact of the Elsight Halo on their operations, stating, "We saw the difference in our results when using the Elsight Halo for continuous connectivity. The precise data we collected, the distance we could operate, and the ability to remotely control our UAV from a distant location were substantially improved." The enhanced connectivity not only boosts operational efficiency but also lays a solid foundation that supports regulatory approvals and allows for scaling operations effectively.

For this pivotal operation, Phoenix Air employed the Event 38 E455 UAS, characterized by its fixed-wing and vertical takeoff capabilities. The UAS was outfitted with a high-resolution camera that provided real-time video feeds, managing a total flight time of 7.72 hours over 332.4 miles. The data collected during the flights was not only transmitted to SPLC inspectors in real-time but was also archived for future analytical purposes. Wheeler added, "This achievement goes beyond expectations, proving that 300 linear miles of pipeline can be effectively patrolled within a single day of flight operations."

Yoav Amitai, CEO of Elsight, praised the collaboration, stating, "Elsight has developed extremely innovative wireless dispersion capabilities to eliminate single points of failure, ensuring mission resilience even in difficult terrains and under challenging conditions." This partnership underscores the potential of Elsight's technology in the UAV sector, significantly contributing to both societal needs and the ongoing evolution of unmanned aviation.

Founded in 2014 and specializing in utility inspection services, Phoenix Air Unmanned has established extensive operational credentials, conducting over 17,500 miles of unmanned inspections. Their expertise extends to BVLOS operations, highlighted by their achievement as the first registered operator of the International Standards for Business Aircraft Operations (IS-BAO) Stage 1 for remotely piloted aircraft systems in 2021.

On the other hand, Elsight is dedicated to providing “Connection Confidence” through innovative aggregated bonding connectivity solutions aimed at ensuring reliable, secure, and high-bandwidth communications in the most demanding conditions. Their services cater to both commercial and defense markets, solidifying their prominence in the field of unmanned systems.

With these capabilities, Elsight not only sets a benchmark in the UAV industry but also exemplifies how advanced technology can reshape operational methodologies and enhance productivity in critical sectors such as utility services and infrastructure inspection.
