Fujipco's Innovative Recycling Collaboration
Fujipco, a leading manufacturer of disposable food containers, has joined forces with the Ono Katoh Kasai Environmental Facility Association to launch a groundbreaking recycling program for used PET bottles. This initiative is set to begin in April 2026, aiming to enhance the circulation of plastic resources within the local economy. The project is part of a collaborative agreement established for promoting resource circulation between the group and the city of Ono in November 2024.
The Environmental Group, which comprises the cities of Ono, Katoh, and Kasai, is projected to collect approximately 2 million PET bottles annually, which amounts to around 50 tons. These collected bottles will be reprocessed by Fujipco, transforming them into new, clear containers. This circular recycling process underscores Fujipco's commitment to sustainable practices and the reduction of environmental impact by reusing local resources.
At the heart of this initiative is the Eco-APET and Eco-OPET containers, manufactured at Fujipco's Kansai factory, which recently expanded into the Hyougo Ono Industrial Park in January 2023. After serving their purpose in supermarkets, these containers, along with other food trays, will be collected at the stores. The collected materials will then be sorted at Fujipco's sorting center within the industrial park before undergoing a rejuvenation process to be reborn as new transparent packaging. This continuous flow of eco-friendly products not only reinforces resource circulation but also promotes sustainable local consumption.
Fujipco, along with the local authorities in Ono, Katoh, and Kasai, is dedicated to environmental education through various outreach initiatives. These include school visits and factory tours designed to educate young minds about the importance of sustainability and waste reduction. By engaging the community in these activities, they aim to foster a sense of environmental responsibility and contribute to building a more sustainable society.
