The energy storage system will employ lithium-ion phosphate batteries, designed for a two-hour discharge duration, with a recharge time of slightly more than two hours. Brandon Dillard, Senior Vice President of Generation at Alabama Power, explained that this system allows for energy to be charged during periods of lower electricity costs and discharged when demand and prices rise. This flexibility is a crucial factor in maintaining economically feasible energy rates for consumers.

Additionally, the facility will enable a quicker response to fluctuating electricity demands, enhancing the grid's overall efficiency and stability.
