Unleash Your Inner Game Developer in Our Workshop
Are your kids spending too much time playing video games? What if they could create their own instead? The inquiry school, パーぱす, will host a unique online game development workshop on August 1, 2026, led by the talented ex-Nintendo programmer Makito Kimura, who contributed to iconic games like Super Mario Kart and F-ZERO. This will be a free event designed primarily for elementary school students, encouraging them to transform from mere gamers to innovative creators.
Why This Workshop?
With record-breaking heatwaves limiting outdoor play and rising living costs restricting travel options, many families are looking for engaging indoor activities. Children are increasingly indulging in games and videos, prompting parents to consider how to integrate technology into their lives positively. As the demand for programming education rises and technology evolves, the skills of creativity and problem-solving are becoming vital for future success.
At 探究塾ぱーぱす, we aim to foster children's ability to think critically and effectively express their ideas through gaming. Instead of simply trying to reduce screen time, we're focused on developing a new approach: empowering kids through the creation of games.
Event Highlights
1. Special Guest: Former Mario Kart Developer
Makito Kimura, with his impressive 35-year career in game development at Nintendo, will share invaluable insights and guide kids in understanding the exciting process of bringing game ideas to life.
2. Transitioning from Playing to Creating
Creating a game demands numerous steps, including story development, design, and programming. Using the visual programming platform Scratch, participants will naturally enhance their logical thinking and creativity.
3. Open to Beginners and Free Online Participation
The workshop invites children with no prior programming experience. Easy access from home ensures that any interested kids or parents can join without hesitation.
4. Strong Interest Garnered Rapidly
Since the event was announced, we have seen an overwhelming response, with registration surpassing 1,500 participants just one month in. Parents and children agree: this is an innovative way to spend the summer!
Words from Our Expert, Makito Kimura
“Having been involved in the development of games for 35 years at Nintendo, including the original Mario Kart, I believe creativity is essential. I wasn't born with special talent; instead, it was my passion to create something fun that motivated me. In today's world, it's crucial for children to learn not just to play games but to think critically and creatively about how to create their own experiences.
This workshop will challenge participants to consider what excites players and to express their ideas through game design. There may be obstacles, but it is in overcoming these challenges that the greatest learning moments occur. I look forward to seeing everyone's unique game creations!”
