Star Princess Completes Successful Sea Trials
Princess Cruises is thrilled to announce that its highly awaited ship, the Star Princess, has successfully concluded its sea trials from August 9 to August 12, 2025. This remarkable vessel, the second ship in the innovative Sphere-Class series, is currently being constructed by Fincantieri, a renowned name in shipbuilding. The completion of these sea trials marks a significant milestone as the Star Princess gears up for its grand debut, set for October 4, 2025, in the stunning Mediterranean waters of Barcelona.
During the trials, the Star Princess departed from the Fincantieri Shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy, and ventured into the Adriatic Sea. Here, she underwent a rigorous set of tests to evaluate key systems such as steering, navigation, and propulsion. This ship stands out as the second in Princess Cruises’ fleet to be powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG), a major advancement in the cruise industry aimed at reducing emissions and fostering sustainability.
In addition to its environmentally friendly propulsion system, the Star Princess is equipped with two Azipod propulsion units that provide remarkable 360-degree thrust. These units ensure exceptional power efficiency and maneuverability. Furthermore, the ship's four controllable pitch bow thrusters enhance its lateral control, allowing for precise movements maneuvering in various docking situations.
Captain Gennaro Arma, who leads the construction team and has an impressive 27-year tenure with Princess Cruises, expressed his pride in the ship's performance during the trials. "We confidently led Star Princess through her sea trials," said Captain Arma. "As the proud leader of our newest vessel, I'm incredibly impressed with her navigation capabilities and maneuverability. With the final countdown underway, my incredible teammates and I can't wait to welcome guests aboard for unforgettable adventures this fall."
Currently in the final stages of outfitting at Fincantieri, Star Princess boasts a remarkable 177,800-ton capacity, catering to 4,300 guests. Following in the footsteps of her award-winning sister ship, the Sun Princess, Star Princess promises an elevated cruising experience featuring no less than 30 dining and bar venues, enhanced entertainment options, and luxurious accommodations that include the Sanctuary Collection suites, mini-suites, and balcony rooms. Each of these rooms offers guests a unique private retreat, complete with exclusive amenities and breathtaking views.
Among the standout features of this magnificent ship is
The Dome, a next-generation relaxation and entertainment venue;
The Arena, Princess’ most modern theater; and
The Piazza, the ship's architectural highlight that showcases dramatic curves alongside stunning floor-to-ceiling windows framing sweeping ocean vistas. Moreover, guests can indulge in a unique experience at
Spellbound by Magic Castle®, a captivating speakeasy born from a collaboration with the iconic Hollywood venue, The Magic Castle™.
The Star Princess is set to make waves during its inaugural season, which will include breathtaking itineraries across the Mediterranean, Caribbean, Panama Canal, and Alaska. Bookings are currently open and can be made through the official website:
