Flower Rondo Exhibition: A Celebration of Ikebana



The Sogetsu School of Ikebana, led by Ikebana's fourth-generation headmaster Akane Teshigahara, proudly announces the upcoming 'Flower Rondo' exhibition. Running from June 10 to June 25, 2026, at the Sogetsu Kaikan, this exhibition aims to beautify the early summer season while highlighting a unique approach to flower arranging.

This event marks a significant milestone in Sogetsu's history, as it is part of a two-year celebration leading up to the 100th anniversary of the school's founding in 1927. Following a series of branch exhibitions throughout the country, the main headquarters will finally host this much-anticipated exhibition featuring both traditional and innovative arrangements.

In 'Flower Rondo', attendees will encounter not only the conventional free-flower arrangements but also captivating 'hanging and wall works' that redefine the boundaries of Ikebana. This exhibition is about individuality and artistic challenges, showcasing the distinct characters of each participant and their pioneering spirits. Attendees will be immersed in a riot of flowers and creative expression, marveling at the dazzling designs that bring the essence of summer alive.

Upon entering the Sogetsu Kaikan, visitors will be greeted by a striking large-scale bamboo installation crafted by the headmaster herself. This piece symbolizes the vigor and energy of the Sogetsu school as it approaches its centenary and ventures into the future, inviting guests into a realm beyond the ordinary.

2. Innovative Works of Hanging and Wall Displays


Challenging traditional methods, the Sogetsu school encourages a philosophy of freedom in expression. Founded in 1927 by Soefu Teshigahara, a visionary who questioned traditional Ikebana, Sogetsu emphasizes individuality and freedom of expression. About Akane Teshigahara


Assuming the role of the fourth headmaster in 2001, Akane Teshigahara has led the Sogetsu school while nurturing a new expression of Ikebana suitable for modern contexts. Alongside her artistic pursuits, she fosters future generations through initiatives like the 'Akane Junior Class', collaborating with artists across various disciplines.
