What is 'Avant de s'envoler'?

'Avant de s'envoler,' written by the acclaimed French playwright Florian Zeller, is making its much-anticipated Japanese premiere after being successfully staged worldwide, including notable productions in London’s West End and New York’s Broadway. The play has garnered international acclaim, with its deep emotional resonance and complex character portrayals. The play’s recent productions have featured award-winning actors such as Jonathan Pryce and Robert Hirsch, featuring themes of mortality, love, and the fragility of life.

In Japan, this production will feature a stellar cast including Ikko Hashizume, Mayumi Wakamura, Kaoru Okunuki, Atsuko Maeda, Keito Okamoto, and Kō Ken. This marks not only a theatrical milestone but also an artistic collaboration integrating top talents in the industry.

Studio AD’s Role

Studio AD is composed of skilled experts who specialize in wig production, hair and makeup planning for various performances, and visual media. Their services range from natural beauty looks to intricate special effects, ensuring each actor's appearance aligns seamlessly with their characters.

Yuko Sato, a proficient hair and makeup planner at Studio AD, will oversee the hair and makeup design for this production. Having joined Studio AD in 1990, Sato has an impressive portfolio, including collaborations on renowned plays such as Long Day's Journey Into Night, Anna Karenina, and King Lear, among others. Her work reflects a deep understanding of the theatrical narrative and character development, allowing her to craft authentic looks that resonate with audiences.

The Production Tour

Following its Tokyo run, Avant de s'envoler will embark on a national tour, performing in Hyogo, Shimane, Miyazaki, Akita, and Toyama. Each location will get the same level of professional hair and makeup treatment, showcasing Studio AD’s commitment to excellence across Japan.
