Latham & Watkins Expands White Collar Defense Team in Washington, D.C.
In a major boost to its White Collar Defense Investigations Practice, Latham & Watkins LLP has appointed Vanessa Le as a partner in their Washington, D.C. office. With her incredible background in government service, Vanessa's presence is expected to significantly enhance the firm's capabilities in advising clients on complex congressional investigations and matters tied to national security.
Vanessa Le's career spans various high-profile roles within the U.S. government. Prior to joining Latham, she served as Counsel for the United States Senate Select Committee on Intelligence (SSCI), where she played a key role in a historic bipartisan investigation between 2017 and 2021. During this time, she was responsible for overseeing over 180 transcribed interviews and drafting subpoenas, while co-authoring the SSCI's comprehensive report on Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. elections. Her expertise also extends to her roles at the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) and in the White House Counsel's Office, positions which further complemented her skill set in navigating legislative and executive branches of government.
In her new role at Latham, Vanessa will benefit from the firm’s global platform, offering enhanced service to clients across the board—including companies, boards, and individuals facing intricate legal challenges. As expressed by Mandy Reeves, the Managing Partner of Latham’s D.C. office, Vanessa is highly regarded not just within intelligence circles but also across both political aisles, positioning her as an invaluable asset to the firm’s clients seeking insights and guidance in a politically sensitive environment.
Kevin Chambers, Global Co-Chair of Latham’s White Collar Defense Investigations Practice, echoed this sentiment. He stated, "Vanessa's substantial government experience in managing sensitive national security issues aligns with what our clients are looking for in today’s complex legal landscape." With her expertise, the firm aims to assist clients in skillfully navigating the multifaceted political, legal, and reputational challenges that arise during congressional engagements.
Vanessa’s journey in law began as an Honors Attorney at the National Security Agency, and she holds a Juris Doctor from The George Washington University Law School along with a Bachelor’s degree from Harvard University. Her arrival at Latham follows a trend of incorporating former government officials into the firm's practices, ensuring that clients reap the benefits of top-tier knowledge and experience.
