Onodrim Industries Raises €40 Million in Seed Funding
Onodrim Industries, a forward-thinking European defence technology firm located in Amsterdam, has recently announced that it has secured €40 million in seed funding. This extensive funding round, primarily led by Founders Fund, Lakestar, and General Catalyst, marks a significant milestone for the company as it strives to enhance the European defence landscape.
The newly acquired funds will primarily be utilized to accelerate the development of Onodrim's innovative defence industrial platform, which is specifically designed to address critical national security challenges throughout Europe. With a focus on improving border security and establishing resilient supply chains for mission-critical systems, Onodrim aims to bolster the technological backbone necessary for upcoming geopolitical concerns.
Onodrim is spearheaded by a group of accomplished leaders in the defence and technology sectors, including CEO Aistis Šimaitis, who has previously advised the Lithuanian Government and worked at Palantir Technologies. In addition to him, Alexander Blessing, a tech expert with experience at Palantir and prestigious educational credentials from Stanford University and the University of Cambridge, serves as the Chief Technology Officer. This experienced management team is dedicated to creating a safer and more secure Europe, acknowledging that the current global climate necessitates an innovative approach to defence.
“To secure peace in Europe, we must evolve,” stated Aistis Šimaitis. He emphasized that the ongoing war in Ukraine underscores the necessity for countries to adapt rapidly to changing dynamics of conflict. Onodrim's strategy is rooted in solidifying foundational strengths by developing both defence-specific hardware and software products designed to enhance Europe’s deterrence capabilities.
Onodrim's initiatives are aligned with a larger shift in Europe's strategic focus. Christian Garrett, one of the company's co-founders, pointed out that as Europe gears up for nearly €800 billion in defence spending by 2030, it is crucial for this investment to reinforce the continent's security and industrial framework. To this end, Onodrim is committed to uniting leading engineers from various fields, including software development, manufacturing, and defence, to foster innovation and resilience within Europe's defence ecosystem.
The commitment from investors reflects a growing recognition that European security hinges on high-quality engineering and the capacity to scale production capabilities efficiently. Klaus Hommels, a founding figure at Lakestar, expressed his enthusiasm for supporting Onodrim, pointing out the company's unique blend of talent and vision aimed at revitalizing Europe’s security landscape.
With the newly acquired funding, Onodrim plans to advance product development efforts, recruit top-tier engineering professionals, and enhance manufacturing and research and development capabilities across Europe.
“The tools and infrastructure being built by Onodrim are vital for maintaining Europe’s competitiveness and security,” shared Jeannette zu Fürstenberg from General Catalyst. She affirms that Onodrim is more than just a defence company; it represents a new wave of European innovation that will help ensure long-term stability and peace within the region.
The future looks bright for Onodrim as it fosters a new genesis in European defence technology. By merging modern engineering excellence with a profound understanding of geopolitical challenges, Onodrim not only aims to be a key player in Europe’s defence ecosystem but also aspires to shape the continent's future resilience and capabilities.
