Skanska Seals $59M Deal for Bridge Replacement in Jurupa Valley, California

Skanska Completes Major Bridge Replacement in California

Skanska, the well-known construction firm, has recently secured a significant contract with the Riverside County Transportation Department for the comprehensive Mission Boulevard Bridge Replacement project, valued at $59 million (equivalent to approximately SEK 580 million). This new development is set to bolster regional mobility in Jurupa Valley, California, providing safer and more accessible routes for both residents and travelers.

The Mission Boulevard Bridge, which crosses the Santa Ana River, plays a crucial role in facilitating transportation across the area. As part of the construction efforts, the bridge's design will incorporate Mission-style architecture, featuring a parabolic soffit—a design element aimed at blending aesthetics with functionality. Importantly, this new structure will also be elevated between 1.2 and 1.8 meters, ensuring it meets modern safety and flood standards as our climate continues to change.

To minimize the footprint of this expansive project and to meet ecological guidelines, Skanska plans to enhance various existing systems, including relocating utilities and performing seismic retrofitting. Additionally, the project will include improved drainage systems and environmental mitigation efforts that address potential ecological disruptions during construction processes.

As part of their commitment to preserving local wildlife and habitats, Skanska aims to restore more than 3 hectares of streambed and habitat on-site, along with 0.7 hectares off-site. These efforts are designed to counterbalance any temporary impacts the construction may have on local fish and wildlife resources.

Work on this significant bridge replacement is set to commence in April 2026 and is expected to reach completion by September 2029. The project promises not only to enhance everyday commuting experiences in the region but also to establish a precedent for future construction endeavors that prioritize both infrastructure integrity and environmental sustainability.

This significant contract will be reflected in the US order bookings during the fourth quarter of 2025, highlighting Skanska's ongoing expansion and commitment to improving infrastructure in the United States while adhering to ecological and safety standards. It showcases the importance of investing in modern infrastructure that caters not only to today's needs but is also resilient enough to adapt to future challenges we face due to climate change and increased regional mobility demands.

As construction progresses on the Mission Boulevard Bridge, the implications of such projects will echo throughout Jurupa Valley for years to come, affecting transportation dynamics, community engagement, and environmental stewardship. This project stands as a testament to the evolving nature of modern construction, which harmonizes utility with design and sustainability.
