US Signal's New Fiber Network: The Future of AI Infrastructure Across Midwest

US Signal's Bold Step Towards AI Infrastructure

In a groundbreaking announcement, US Signal has revealed plans to construct more than 1,000 miles of high-density fiber and conduit infrastructure across Ohio and Indiana. This major initiative marks a significant step in expanding the company's middle-mile network, aiming to enhance connectivity that supports AI, cloud services, and next-generation workloads. This new infrastructure is not just a response to the growing digital demands but a proactive approach to redefining connectivity standards in the region.

A Response to Growing Demand

The construction project comes as part of a $200 million investment by Igneo Infrastructure Partners, which was disclosed in 2025. With around 30% of the network already completed, US Signal is on track to finish the remaining routes by early 2027. Daniel Watts, CEO of US Signal, emphasized the company's commitment to building state-of-the-art infrastructure that meets the future needs of the digital age. “Many providers talk about future builds. We're building now,” he stated, focusing on creating brand-new, high-capacity systems tailored for advanced technological requirements.

Purpose-Built for the AI Era

The new middle-mile routes feature multi-conduit systems and high-count fiber, enabling exceptional scalability. Unlike typical expansions that make use of existing infrastructure, US Signal’s unique approach emphasizes developing fresh construction to ensure durability and performance. The intent is clear: to provide infrastructure that will withstand the demands of the fast-evolving tech landscape, particularly as applications reliant on AI and cloud computing continue to soar.

Direct Connectivity and Strategic Growth

This extensive fiber network will interconnect US Signal’s core data centers while allowing for the establishment of edge data centers along critical routes. This strategy ensures that computational resources and connectivity are positioned closer to customers, a crucial factor for latency-sensitive applications. John White, COO at US Signal, highlighted that both enterprise-level and regional customers necessitate Infrastructure that doesn't become outdated within a short period. “By combining high-count fiber, multiple conduits, and strategic data center connectivity, we are building a foundation that scales with demand,” he remarked.

Strengthening Digital Infrastructure

This expansion not only reinforces US Signal’s status as a leading digital infrastructure provider in the Midwest but also enhances its offerings in dark fiber, lit services, and colocation-connected solutions across a rapidly growing national footprint. This initiative marks a critical phase in a broader network expansion plan that will further extend beyond the Midwest, aiming at establishing a robust digital backbone for various industries.

Looking to the Future

As the tech landscape continues to evolve, infrastructure that can efficiently support AI, cloud integration, and various digital solutions will be increasingly vital. US Signal's proactive strategy ensures they remain at the forefront of this transformation, reinforcing their dedication to providing advanced, scalable solutions for a diverse range of clients.
