OpenText Joins OECD's Global AI Safety Framework for Enhanced Governance

OpenText's Participation in OECD's Global AI Safety Framework

In a significant step towards enhancing the safety of AI technologies, OpenText Corporation, a leader in enterprise AI data management, has announced its early participation in the OECD's Global AI Safety Framework. This framework, which originated from the Hiroshima AI Process (HAIP), aims to establish an international guideline for organizations to comply with G7's voluntary code of conduct regarding the safe deployment and development of advanced AI technologies.

The CEO of OpenText, Ayman Antoun, emphasized the importance of trust in AI, stating, "Trust in AI relies on the quality of the data that underpins its models and how that data is managed, protected, and contextualized. OpenText has been focused on building this foundation for 35 years. Joining HAIP is an extension of that commitment, contributing to realizing a new global framework that reflects the reality of agent-based AI adoption at the enterprise level."

OpenText manages a vast array of data across 180 countries, collaborating with over 120,000 companies and governmental organizations. They oversee various types of data, including human-generated information, machine-generated data, and transaction data among their business network, which facilitates over 15 trillion Canadian dollars in B2B transactions annually. This extensive data base enables OpenText to engage in vital policy discussions globally while ensuring the reliability of autonomous AI and demonstrating measurable value for both public and private sectors.

Data Foundation for Trustworthy AI

OpenText oversees three major data domains that are crucial for enterprise AI: Human-generated data which includes unstructured content like organizational documents; Machine-generated data, which comes from IT service management, cybersecurity, and supply chain platforms; and Transaction data, which encompasses B2B transaction flows and supply chain events across over a million trading partners worldwide. Their Aviator AI solution is integrated within this established governance ecosystem, ensuring enterprise-grade security, compliance management, and data lineage for all AI interactions, directly supporting the principles of transparency and accountability promoted by HAIP.

Shannon Bell, OpenText's Executive Vice President and Chief Digital Officer, elaborated on the importance of data governance, saying, "We understand firsthand that trustworthy agent-based AI begins with data governance. Before implementing AI, it’s essential to ensure how data are managed, secured, and controlled. This concept is exactly what HAIP formalizes, making our participation a logical next step for our company and our customers globally."

Strengthening Canada's Leadership in Responsible AI

OpenText is not just joining the global efforts; it is also one of the first signatories of Canada's voluntary code of conduct for responsible development and management of advanced generative AI systems. By aligning with HAIP, OpenText strengthens its role as a key player in promoting responsible AI governance internationally while enhancing Canada’s standing as a leader in the global AI landscape.
