FOD, the video streaming service operated by Fuji Television, is set to adapt the wildly popular shoujo manga "Kurosaki-kun no Iinari ni Nann te Naranai," originally written by Makino, into a new original drama series. This beloved series has been captivating readers since its serialization in "Bessatsu Friend" from 2014 to 2021, boasting a cumulative print run of over 6.5 million copies as of 2026. It even inspired a live-action movie in 2016, further solidifying its popularity.
The story centers around Yu Akabane, an average high school girl who is excited about beginning her high school journey and dreams of a vibrant school life. However, her life takes an unexpected turn when she becomes entangled with Haruto Kurosaki, the vice dorm leader known for his devilish charm and domineering personality, who commands her to be completely obedient to him. Meanwhile, she harbors a sweet crush on Takumi Shirakawa, the charismatic "white prince" of the school, creating a captivating love triangle.
As Yu navigates her feelings for both Takumi and Haruto, the classic themes of shoujo romance come alive. The narrative tantalizes readers with the tension between Yu's longing for a fairytale romance and the harsh reality of being dominated by Haruto’s overbearing nature. Haruto, initially perceived as a harsh figure, reveals unexpected moments of kindness that bewilder Yu, leading her deeper into her confusing emotions—a phenomenon affectionately dubbed "Kurosaki-numa" among fans.
At a time when traditional romance dramas have become less common, this adaptation promises a wealth of heart-fluttering moments that appeal to a wide audience. The series is expected to include all the beloved tropes and scenarios typical of shoujo manga, making it a must-watch for fans of the genre. The exact cast and release date details will be announced soon, and viewers can stay updated through FOD's official X page and the "Bessatsu Friend" X account.
