Performance Details
This upcoming event will feature Mascagni's renowned work presented in Italian with subtitles, performed in one act. The setting is Easter Sunday in Sicily, where themes of love, jealousy, and betrayal culminate in a powerful human drama, painting a vivid picture of emotional intensity.
In contrast, Ravel's "L'Enfant et les Sortilèges," presented in Japanese with subtitles, is a magical tale that unfolds the story of a mischievous child who, through extraordinary events, learns about compassion and the value of life. Ravel's lush orchestration and the diverse cast of characters enhance the whimsical atmosphere of this exquisite piece.
The show will be overseen by General Director Mayako Hozumi, with conducting by Yasuto Kimura and direction by Nobuaki Imai. On both days, the cast will feature a mix of distinguished soloists alongside children’s choirs, opera choruses, and instrumentalists, ensuring that attendees will experience a different dynamic in the performances.
This double-bill presentation not only highlights the fervor of Italian opera but also celebrates the fantastical beauty of French compositions, offering an invaluable opportunity for audiences to explore these contrasting masterpieces in one evening.
