Nuclear Company Unveils Prosperity One: A Major New Power Plant in Kentucky

Nuclear Company has announced the ambitious project known as Prosperity One, a proposed nuclear power facility set to be constructed in Lewis County, Kentucky. This significant development aims to integrate up to six AP1000 reactors from Westinghouse, with a total output capacity of approximately 6.6 gigawatts of electrical power.

A Landmark Development for Kentucky

Strategically located along the Ohio River in Eastern Kentucky, Prosperity One is projected to transform the local energy landscape as the largest nuclear power site in the United States. Upon completion, it will not only bolster the state's energy production capabilities but will also mark a crucial step towards reestablishing nuclear energy as a pillar of American infrastructure. This initiative is directly in response to President Trump's challenge to enhance U.S. energy production, representing a substantial investment in the future of nuclear energy.

Project leaders are committed to cultivating industrial investments and long-term economic prospects for communities that have historically contributed to the nation's energy supply. Joe Klecha, the Chief Nuclear Officer at Nuclear Company, highlighted the company's dedication to collaborating with local landowners and community leaders to ensure the project's success. He stated, "Communities along the Ohio River have supported the industrial backbone of America for generations. We are proud to engage with the community to create sustainable jobs and reliable energy for Kentucky."

Community Involvement and Environmental Considerations

The planning phase for Prosperity One emphasizes community involvement, with Nuclear Company actively seeking the input of local residents throughout the development process. They plan to initiate site development activities and secure federal permits to kick-start construction by 2028.

Sam Howard, a lifelong resident of Lewis County, who owns land in the project area, expressed his support, stating, "This infrastructure project could provide jobs and economic opportunities for generations in Eastern Kentucky. I want my grandchildren to have the option to stay here, rather than leave for better opportunities elsewhere."

In an effort to ensure a comprehensive approach to development, the project planning will address critical issues such as transport logistics, housing requirements, environmental protection, emergency preparedness, and water usage.

Preparing for the Future

Lewis County is poised to become one of the first in Kentucky to apply for recognition from the Kentucky Office of Nuclear Energy for readiness to support nuclear power projects. Local officials unanimously initiated this effort in July 2026 to gather public feedback, which has garnered overwhelming support for the official application.

Following site selection, Nuclear Company is set to continue the essential engineering, environmental, regulatory, and commercial work necessary to advance Prosperity One into its construction phase. Detailed site assessments, geotechnical surveys, environmental impact studies, and planning for transmission grid connections will be critical components of the upcoming processes.

Nuclear Company will also reach out to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission as part of its licensing process to obtain the necessary approvals to commence construction in 2028.
