Future Beer Garden 2026: A Sustainable Experience
In May 2026, the picturesque Kamikatsu Town in Tokushima Prefecture, Japan, will host the
Future Beer Garden 2026 in Tokyo, transforming urban spaces into platforms that champion sustainability and eco-friendliness. The event, organized by Kamikatsu Town – the first municipality in Japan to declare a zero-waste initiative – will take place on May 14-15 at Otemachi Nakamichi in Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo.
For many, sustainability may seem a daunting or specialized topic, but the Future Beer Garden aims to make it accessible. Picture this: after a long day at work, you gather with colleagues not just to sip on refreshing craft beer but also to unconsciously engage in environmentally conscious decisions. This year's event marks its third iteration, striving to create a casual atmosphere where attendees can enjoy simple yet impactful choices that connect them with resource circulation.
Experiencing the Future: The Waste Station
At the heart of the event lies a unique focal point—a
Waste Station designed not merely as a trash repository but as an interactive space that allows visitors to grasp the principles of resource circulation. Designed by Wrap Architectural Design Office, this installation is reminiscent of the Kamikatsu Zero Waste Center, which embodies the ideals of sustainability through its innovative and engaging approach.
Collaboration with
Rock Paint Co., Ltd. has enabled visitors to experience the idea of “circular painting,” utilizing eco-friendly paints made from reprocessed coffee grounds. This waste station exemplifies the event's commitment to environmental consciousness.
A Future from Waste
Aligned with
Mitsubishi Estate Group, the event will offer urban dwellers a tangible understanding of resource circulation. By
visualizing the lifecycle of materials used throughout the event, attendees will discover that “discarding” doesn’t equate to an end, but rather represents the beginning of innovative choices. The dining area will feature sustainable practices from various partnering businesses, aiming to reduce waste.
Dining experiences will incorporate eco-friendly utensils, including bamboo chopsticks from
ChopValue Japan—which are collected and transformed into furniture post-use—and aluminum cups from
UACJ, which can be recycled back into their original forms. Moreover,
Ecoinno Japan will offer disposable food containers made from sugarcane byproducts, designed to biodegrade in local agricultural contexts.
Enjoying Together: The People’s Table
A unique aspect of the event will be the
People’s Table, where a long communal table invites open dialogue among visitors. Attendees are encouraged to bring their favorite dishes and share stories while responding to conversation prompts provided at the table. Eating, drinking, and conversing are seen as initial steps toward cultivating a sustainable future.
Showcasing Local Craftsmanship
The event will feature food and drinks that highlight local Kamikatsu ingredients, supporting participating restaurants that embody the essence of sustainability. Attendees can indulge in craft beers and culinary delights that facilitate a natural understanding of sustainable practices. Partners such as
naeme,
NY BISTRO by NO CODE, and
RISE & WIN Brewing Co. will showcase extraordinary flavors while promoting environmental awareness.
Co-creating Sustainability with Brands
The Waste Station will host displays from environmentally-conscious brands that resonate with the event's ethos. These showcases aim to inspire attendees with actionable insights that they can integrate into their everyday lives. One noteworthy collaboration between
SPEC and Mitsubishi Estate will introduce
TOWN CRAFT, a unique beer brewed with barley cultivated using liquid fertilizer from on-site composting efforts. This initiative invites attendees to participate in zero-waste activities subconsciously.
Discovering Kamikatsu’s Charm
Encouraging visitors to explore Kamikatsu, an atrium area will feature local specialties such as Awa Bancha tea and rare citrus fruits, showcasing the town’s remarkable charm. Attendees will learn about traditional agriculture and forest conservation, contributing to the allure of rural living. The initiative also provides resources for relocation consultations, nurturing a connection between Tokyo and Kamikatsu inhabitants.
