Transforming Batam: A New Era with Aslan Energy Capital



Aslan Energy Capital has made headlines by successfully hosting a tender clarification workshop in Batam, marking a critical step in realizing Indonesia's largest solar energy project. This ambitious venture will see a utility-scale solar plant with a capacity of 1,200 MWp, aiming to transform the renewable energy landscape in Southeast Asia.

The solar facility is not just a source of green energy; it will serve as the catalyst for establishing a sustainable hydrogen hub in Batam. Located strategically in the Riau Islands, this initiative aligns perfectly with Indonesia's renewable energy goals and positions Batam at the forefront of an energy revolution in the region.

During the workshop, held on May 13, 2025, Muthu Chezhian, CEO of Aslan Energy Capital, highlighted the significance of the project. He stated, "This solar project will not only be the largest in Indonesia—it also sets a new benchmark for energy innovation by enabling utility-scale solar to power green hydrogen production for export."

This project is expected to play a vital role in enhancing Indonesia's commitment to clean energy and environmental sustainability. A unique feature of the solar development involves the use of previously degraded lands, specifically post-mining areas, for solar panel installation. By doing so, Aslan Energy Capital is not only generating clean energy but also rehabilitating the environment and turning barren lands into productive assets.

In addition to its environmental benefits, the project promises to create over 2,000 local jobs in the Riau Islands, accompanied by social impact programs aimed at uplifting surrounding communities. The inclusion of social programs ensures that the project's benefits extend beyond mere energy production, fostering economic growth and sustainability in local populations.

Throughout the workshop, bidders received thorough briefings on the project’s technical specifications, commercial terms, and how the solar plant would integrate with the hydrogen production infrastructure. Open dialogue through interactive Q&A sessions allowed for inquiries regarding permitting processes, collaborative frameworks, and grid connectivity, emphasizing Aslan's inclusive approach towards stakeholder engagement.

Launched in the final quarter of 2024, the Request for Quotations (RFQ) process attracted significant interest, with 31 Expressions of Interest (EOIs) submitted from global renewable energy developers. Out of these, 17 firms successfully prequalified, highlighting the project’s international appeal and the confidence it has generated among industry leaders.

Aslan Energy Capital is poised to continue collaborations with shortlisted bidders in the upcoming months, steering this monumental project towards execution. The solar initiative not only signifies a leap towards a sustainable future for Indonesia but also embodies a vision for economic vitality throughout the region.
