Alice's Kids Charity Donates $175,000 for Senior Prom Tickets for Fire-Affected Students

Charity Initiative to Help Altadena Seniors

Amidst the aftermath of the devastating Eaton Fire that ravaged parts of Altadena, Virginia's Alice's Kids has stepped in with a generous donation aimed at ensuring that over 800 high school seniors can attend their prom. In a video announcement, actor and longtime supporter Steve Carell revealed that the charity will finance approximately $175,000 for these much-anticipated tickets.

Following the tragic fires that impacted more than 9,400 buildings and displaced thousands of families, many high school seniors found themselves facing the emotional and financial repercussions of the disaster. The prom, a traditional and joyous rite of passage, was at risk of being overshadowed by the adversity the community has endured.

Ron Fitzsimmons, Executive Director of Alice's Kids, emphasized the importance of this gesture: "Going to prom should be a celebration, and we wanted to help make the big night just a little easier for seniors whose lives have been turned upside down by the wildfires." He added that senior year typically marks a significant transition for students, and it is critical for them to have an opportunity to enjoy this milestone amidst challenging times.

The donation comes as a breath of fresh air for schools like Marshall Fundamental Secondary, where Principal Lori Touloumian expressed heartfelt gratitude on behalf of the community: "So many of our students endured tragedy and loss due to the Eaton Fires. This wonderful gesture will lift our students' spirits with a spark of much-needed joy." Similar sentiments were echoed by Byron Flitsch, Director of Curriculum at Aveson Charter, who described the news as "beyond epic!" for their students.

This year’s prom celebrations will be hosted at several of the surviving high schools, including John Muir, Blair, Rose City, Pasadena High, and Marshall Fundamental. By alleviating the financial burden associated with prom tickets, Alice's Kids aims to provide these students with a chance to unwind and create lasting memories as they transition from high school into adulthood.

Alice's Kids is recognized nationally for its commitment to supporting children in need by offering them anonymous financial assistance. Their mission has been particularly poignant during this difficult period, and the recent donation represents their dedication to restoring hope and joy to the lives of children affected by the wildfires.

As the Altadena community strives to recover and rebuild from the ashes of the devastating Eaton Fire, this initiative serves as a reminder of the resilience and compassion that can flourish in times of crisis.
