Highlights from the Mobile AI Summit 2025



On June 27, 2025, Huawei hosted a pivotal event known as the Mobile AI Summit during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Shanghai. This summit gathered industry operators, AI ecosystem partners, scholars, and other significant stakeholders to dive deep into the emerging trends in mobile artificial intelligence. In a notable moment, participants witnessed the launch of the GSMA Foundry project, aimed at fostering mobile networks designed to thrive on AI capabilities. This milestone marks the beginning of operators venturing into the monetization of experiences, as they start constructing networks focused on optimizing mobility and AI interactions.

Importance of AI in Telecommunications


During the summit, Wen Ku, the president of the China Communications Standards Association (CCSA), underlined that the integration of 5G-A with artificial intelligence is pivotal for the evolution of communication networks. As the future unfolds, the focus should be on establishing standards, building intelligent networks, and promoting collaborative development through ecosystems to lead in mobile AI innovation.

Industry leaders from companies like Rokid, MiniMax, and Unitree Robotics discussed strategies for AI service providers to gain competitive advantages through differentiated offerings in the rapidly evolving market landscape. They emphasized how AI is extending traditional user interactions from touchscreen interfaces to multi-modal experiences, such as voice, video, and spatial calculations. Enhanced AI capabilities allow for higher audiovisual transmission rates and model accuracy, leveraging 5G-A networks to minimize latency during interactions, crucial for facilitating new services that depend on real-time engagements, including high-quality AI video calls that demand upload speeds of at least 20 Mbps.

Zhi-Quan Luo, a foreign member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and IEEE Institute member, shared insights on network optimization practices and strategic plans for incorporating AI technologies comprehensively. The transformation instigated by AI is reshaping mobile networks and overall telecommunications, assisting operators in achieving a digital transition from traditional network operations toward a monetized business model.

The GigaBand and New Service Initiatives


Huawei shared its GigaBand solution portfolio as a leading provider of 5G-A technology. By introducing Air Interface Resource pooling (AIR) and optimization solvers (Optsolver), GigaBand facilitates seamless network evolution to support novel AI services. This solution empowers operators to construct adaptive, flexible networks that meet diverse service demands, ranging from live broadcasting to AI-driven mobile assistants and cloud gaming.

For instance, the deployment of GigaBand in Hong Kong demonstrated the capability to share various 4G/5G bands for service delivery, achieving an impressive 2.28 times increase in 5G throughput while maintaining reliable 4G user experiences. This advancement adds significant value to operators striving to establish effective, intelligent, low-carbon 5G standalone networks.

With the continuous modernization of 5G-A through GigaBand and other innovative technologies, along with dynamic ecosystem collaborations across sectors, mobile AI is evolving into a new engine that will drive revenue growth in the telecommunications industry.
