Einride and PostNord Expand Electric Operations in Norway for Greener Freight Transportation

Einride and PostNord: Leading the Charge in Sustainable Freight

In a significant development for the logistics sector, Einride, a leading technology provider in electric and autonomous road freight solutions, has announced a major expansion of its partnership with PostNord. Initially launched in Norway in 2023, this collaboration aims to enhance sustainable transportation by doubling the electric freight operations to a remarkable 1.3 million zero-emission kilometers per year. Previously, operations focused on key routes within Oslo, setting the stage for substantial developments in regional freight electrification.

The renewed collaboration is built on the success of their 2023 deployment, which achieved impressive sustainability milestones by saving an estimated 2,100 tonnes of CO₂ emissions over a three-year timeframe. The environmentally friendly initiative is powered by Einride's innovative freight mobility ecosystem, which combines connected electric trucks with the Einride Saga AI platform. This digital operating system optimizes logistics by enhancing the efficiency of electric and autonomous freight movement.

A Vision for Sustainable Logistics

Roozbeh Charli, CEO of Einride, emphasized that the company’s growth strategy relies heavily on developing scalable partnerships. He stated, "Our collaboration demonstrates significant long-term potential within our existing customer portfolio. Norway has been a trailblazer in the transition towards electric transportation, and we are excited to extend our impact here with a visionary partner like PostNord."

PostNord plays a pivotal role in this transition, as it is a leading provider of parcel and logistics services across the Nordic region, accounting for 35% of all parcel shipments. The original deployment launched an eco-friendly transport initiative that saw over 1,500 kilometers being covered daily using zero-emission vehicles. With the doubling of their electric transport distance, the partnership anticipates a significant reduction in emissions, further aligning with PostNord's ambitious goal of achieving a fossil-free operation by 2030.

May-Kristin S. Willoch, Head of Environment DPO at PostNord Norway, highlighted the importance of the partnership with Einride, stating, "Our collaboration enables us to pursue meaningful advancements in sustainable and cost-efficient logistics. With this expansion, a significant portion of our regional fleet in Norway is now fully electric."

A Historic Milestone in Freight Transportation

The ambitious plans did not stop at mere expansions—September 2025 marked a groundbreaking milestone in freight technology when Einride and PostNord completed the region’s first cabless, electric, autonomous cross-border delivery. This pioneering initiative involved delivering parcels without a human driver on board, showcasing the remarkable integration of Einride's cutting-edge electric and autonomous systems into cross-border transportation and customs processes.

This project, part of the EU-funded MODI project, demonstrated the feasibility of advanced digital freight solutions, reinforcing PostNord’s commitment to sustainable logistics at scale throughout the Nordic region.

In conclusion, the partnership between Einride and PostNord underscores the growing shift towards electric logistics within Norway and beyond. The expansive, innovative approach to freight operations not only sets new benchmarks in emissions reductions but also plays a vital role in paving the way for a sustainable logistics future. As the world continues to grapple with climate change challenges, collaborations like these provide hope and direction towards greener, smarter transportation solutions.
