XCMG Takes the Lead in Shaping Global Crane Standards at ISO Meetings

XCMG Advances International Crane Standards

In a significant gathering that marked a pivotal moment for the crane industry, XCMG showcased its leadership role during the recent ISO/TC96 meetings held in Frankfurt, Germany, in June 2026. This meeting brought together over 100 representatives from 16 countries, including major players such as China, Germany, France, the United States, and Japan, to discuss critical international standards for cranes.

XCMG's Vice President and Chief Engineer, Shan Zenghai, led a team of technical experts from the company, representing China at this prestigious event. Their participation was not merely symbolic; it was integral to the discussions surrounding the enhancement of key standards initiatives in the crane sector. Prior to the event, the Chinese delegation worked extensively to coordinate technical proposals and establish priorities crucial for the working groups involved.

During the meetings, the focus was on multiple topics, including crane safety protocols, effective inspection practices, and the operational standards for mobile cranes. Shan Zenghai, who also convened the working group on the "Safe Use of Mobile Cranes," presented progress on the much-anticipated ISO 12480-2 — a standard focused on the safe usage of mobile cranes, which has now reached the Draft International Standard (DIS) stage.

In addition to addressing existing standards, XCMG experts took active steps towards proposing a new work item related to ISO 9927-2, which pertains to inspections of mobile cranes. The suggestion was met with keen interest from international experts present, emphasizing the collaborative spirit of the meeting. Furthermore, XCMG was also involved in refining the ISO 9927-1 standard, which deals with general crane inspections, showcasing their commitment to enhancing global operational standards.

XCMG's expertise did not stop there; the company undertook several additional international standard revision projects, further solidifying its role as a key player in the global crane industry. Throughout the sessions, significant advancements were made regarding 14 international crane standards that are led or revised by China. Two new proposals, along with six other international standard projects, emerged out of Chinese leadership in this field.

These developments are a testament to China's growing influence in the area of international crane standardization, highlighting the country's ambitions in becoming a dominant force in the global crane manufacturing market. As XCMG stands as the third-largest construction equipment manufacturer globally, its involvement in such standards underscores its strategic importance not only in terms of production but also in pushing forward the envelope on global standards.

XCMG has developed or played a key role in the establishment of over ten international standards to date. These initiatives have been pivotal in enhancing not only product quality but also the technical capabilities within the industry's broader ecosystem. As it continues to innovate and push boundaries, XCMG exemplifies how leading manufacturers can contribute not just through product exports, but by actively shaping the standards that govern global practices.

In conclusion, the ISO meetings in Frankfurt served as a significant platform for XCMG not only to represent Chinese engineering excellence but also to influence the global conversation about safety, efficiency, and innovation in the crane industry. As we look toward the future, XCMG is poised to continue its significant contributions to international crane standards, reinforcing China's position within the global manufacturing landscape.
