Sungrow's Milestone in EU Battery Regulation Compliance
In an industry first, Sungrow Power Supply Co., Ltd. has successfully completed the European Union's Battery Regulation conformity assessment, conducted by TÜV Rheinland, a recognized Notified Body. This achievement marks a significant milestone for Sungrow as the first company globally to comply with the latest regulatory standards for energy storage systems across utility, commercial, and residential segments.
The EU Battery Regulation (EU 2023/1542) is considered one of the most comprehensive and strict frameworks governing the full lifecycle of batteries, imposing unified requirements for production, operation, repurposing, and recycling. With nearly 100 provisions, the regulation gradually raises the bar for manufacturers worldwide, making compliance essential not only for EU-based businesses but also for market access in other global regions.
The assessment focused on several critical technical regulations, with TÜV Rheinland outlining clear evaluation methods. These criteria include the use of hazardous materials, performance, durability, and safety requirements for stationary battery energy storage systems. Additionally, the assessment addressed labeling obligations and battery management parameters, such as health status and expected lifespan.
Based on test data and compliance procedures under Module D1— which assesses quality management systems and ongoing compliance monitoring—TÜV Rheinland confirmed that Sungrow’s PowerTitan for large installations, PowerStack, and PowerKeeper for commercial applications, alongside all household products, meet the necessary regulatory requirements. Bowen Dong, the General Manager of PVES Product Services at TÜV Rheinland Greater China, stated, "Sungrow's energy storage portfolio demonstrates remarkable performance regarding safety design, system reliability, and critical technical metrics. It fully meets the strict EU Battery Regulation requirements for stationary energy storage systems. Sungrow’s achievement as the first company to complete the NB evaluation in these segments provides a valuable reference for the industry regarding the evolving regulatory landscape in Europe."
