Rapidus and Siemens Collaborate to Revolutionize 2nm Semiconductor Design
Rapidus and Siemens Join Forces for 2nm Semiconductor Advancements
In an exciting development for the semiconductor industry, Rapidus Corporation, a pioneering company in advanced logic semiconductor manufacturing, has announced a significant collaboration with Siemens Digital Industries. This strategic partnership aims to drive innovation in semiconductor design and manufacturing processes tailored for the upcoming 2nm technology generation.
Collaboration Goals
The primary focus of this collaboration is to leverage Siemens' expertise in Electronic Design Automation (EDA) technologies, particularly through the use of the Calibre® platform. This platform is recognized as the industry standard for verification solutions, offering enhanced capabilities for physical verification, manufacturing optimization, and reliability assessments. By partnering with Siemens, Rapidus aims to create a state-of-the-art Process Design Kit (PDK), which will serve as the foundation for their semiconductor design efforts.
The collaboration is grounded in the concept of Manufacturing for Design (MFD) which Rapidus advocates. This approach focuses on achieving high yield rates and minimizing turnaround times from initial design stages to final production. By integrating Siemens' technologies into their manufacturing processes, Rapidus seeks to enhance the efficiency and reliability of their operations.
A Holistic Reference Flow
Together, Rapidus and Siemens intend to build a comprehensive reference flow that seamlessly integrates design, verification, and manufacturing operations from the front-end to the back-end. This cohesive approach aims to create a smoother development environment for Rapidus' Rapid and Unified Manufacturing Service (RUMS). Through this initiative, the companies hope to streamline processes, thereby accelerating the time to market for new semiconductor products.
Mike Ellow, CEO of Siemens EDA, expressed the importance of this collaboration, stating, "Our work with Rapidus signifies the deep integration of Siemens' EDA technology into a new manufacturing base. Through the creation of a reference flow utilizing products such as Calibre and Solido, we will jointly build a future of semiconductor manufacturing that excels in reliability, speed, scalability, and safety."
Advancing Semiconductor Manufacturing
Rapidus is committed to revolutionizing the semiconductor industry by creating a new approach that integrates the complete foundry process—from design to manufacturing. They emphasize the secure management of design data to ensure manufacturing traceability and to reduce the risk of information leakage. This will ultimately enhance the reliability of their supply chain.
Dr. Atsuyoshi Koike, CEO of Rapidus, highlighted the company’s dedication to advancing co-optimization in manufacturing and design. He mentioned, "Our collaboration with Siemens will embody this mutual optimization for our Design Manufacturing Co-Optimization (DMCO) concept. As a state-of-the-art semiconductor foundry, Rapidus will dramatically shorten the time to tape-out by achieving MFD for the 2nm gate-all-around process."
