Nessus Supports Children During Summer Vacation With Fundraising Campaign

Addressing Child Isolation and Food Insecurity This Summer

As summer vacation approaches, the absence of school meals creates challenges for many children, particularly those from low-income families. Recognizing this critical need, Nessus Inc., based in Setagaya, Tokyo, has introduced the "Summer Vacation Support Campaign" through its initiative, "Kodomo Furusato Bin". This program aims to eliminate childhood food insecurity and social isolation.

The Campaign: Understanding the Initiatives

Nessus seeks to ensure that every child can thrive and seize opportunities in life. Through donations collected via furusato tax, the company purchases local specialties to distribute to children’s cafeterias and single-parent families. The Summer Vacation Support Campaign will run until August 16, 2026, inviting participants to contribute via the Kodomo Furusato Bin portal site.

By utilizing the campaign code "kodomo8" during the donation process, donors will receive an additional 5% of their total contribution in local food items at no extra cost, courtesy of Nessus. These added resources are intended for distribution to regional children's cafeterias, directly addressing the issue of nutritional support while also creating safe spaces for children to engage with their communities.

Challenges Faced by Children During Summer

Reports highlight that school vacations can lead to stark disparities in food accessibility and social interactions based on family income.

1. Food Insecurity Among Low-Income Families

Recent surveys conducted by recognized non-profit organizations reveal alarming statistics. For example, a survey by Kids Door demonstrated that among families earning less than 1 million yen annually, 75% anticipated decreased meal sizes, and 61% feared they wouldn't manage three meals a day. These challenges intensify as parental income rises, displaying a clear trend linked to economic status.

2. Social Isolation and Lack of Engagement

Another report by the After-School Non-Profit Organization emphasized the undeniable isolation faced by children from families earning less than 3 million yen annually. An overwhelming 92.3% reported not participating in summer camps, while 56.9% lacked opportunities to play with friends; moreover, a staggering 72.3% had no access to extracurricular activities. Such conditions reveal an increase in the number of children who spend longer periods at home alone, particularly among lower-income households. In fact, over 50% of children surveyed reported regularly staying home alone during school breaks.

Combating Isolation with Community Support

In light of these findings, Nessus's mission through the Kodomo Furusato Bin program becomes crystal clear. Their unique approach to crowdfunding directly connects donors with local producers while fostering community resilience. Participants can select where their contributions go, which imbues their donations with a sense of purpose and connection. As a result, the positive impact on children's well-being is twofold: providing essential food while also encouraging social interaction and community integration.

An Invitation from Nessus

"Summer vacations should be a time for joy and exploration for all children, but the unfortunate reality is that some experience profound isolation and lack basic necessities," stated Yuuki Kido, CEO of Nessus. "Our initiative aims to mitigate these harsh realities by amplifying the benevolence of our donors. We welcome everyone to take part in our mission through the established furusato tax system this summer. Together, we can make a difference!"

Conclusion

The Kodomo Furusato Bin campaign not only serves to provide nutritious meals for children but also ensures they have safe spaces to engage with others. By tackling food insecurity and social isolation together, this initiative exemplifies compelled community support. To learn more or to participate, visit Kodomo Furusato Bin
