PATCH&PLAY Unveils a Fresh Identity on April 24, 2026
PATCH&PLAY, operated by STORY&Co., is set to embrace a transformative rebranding on April 24, 2026, showcasing a new concept centered around the theme, "Transforming Experiences into a Journey." Since its inception in November 2025, the experience-based shop in Harajuku has attracted numerous visitors from around the globe.
With over 500 types of patches created by approximately 20 talented creators, PATCH&PLAY has captured the hearts of local and international customers alike, with around 60% of its visitors coming from overseas. The rebranding is a step forward as the brand seeks to enhance its value beyond mere experience, blending versatility for everyday use with creativity that resonates with individual sensibilities.
Background of the Rebranding
Previously, PATCH&PLAY focused on a patch-centric experiential service, shifting the narrative from simple repairs to enjoyable experiences that encourage personal expression and updating one’s wardrobe. However, customer needs have diversified, with a growing expectation for more personalized and practical services that align with sustainable lifestyles. In response to these evolving demands, PATCH&PLAY is revisiting its service framework.
The new concept, "More than Restoring, It's About You," aims to redefine the relationship between garments and their owners. Rather than merely restoring clothes to their original state, the initiative will embrace dialogue centered around each customer’s lifestyle, preferences, and current mindset—effectively transforming garments to reflect their unique stories. The service model will shift from a focus on "patching and repairs" to "embroidery and alterations," creating an expanded offering tailored to life’s changing needs.
New Logo Inspired by the Amanouzume Myth
The rebranding introduces a new logo that draws from the legend of Amanouzume, reflecting not just a typical repair service but a vibrant space where creativity thrives and customers feel welcome. Amanouzume, a figure who restored light to a dark world through dance and laughter, symbolizes the values of opening up, unravelling, and enlightening in a modern context.
Acclaimed graphic designer Yutaka Masuda has abstractly designed the logo to convey the divine and energetic essence of Amanouzume through vibrant reds, striking blacks, and clear whites.
The Store Concept: The "4th Place"
PATCH&PLAY aspires to become a '4th Place'—a creative environment where individuals can disengage from societal roles and rekindle their authenticity. The store’s design encourages interactions and experiences that reconnect customers with their senses and values, serving as a catalyst for personal growth.
Four Distinct Areas Within the Store
The store features four areas designed to facilitate a seamless flow of experiences for customers:
1.
THE LABO: A workshop equipped with embroidery machines where customers can engage hands-on with staff to create custom designs and engage in repairs—launching workshops in June 2026.
2.
BODY LABO: This area allows customers to personalize items like hats and bags using patches and embroidery, fostering exploration in crafting unique pieces.
3.
THE DESK: A consultation counter for repair inquiries where staff engage in meaningful dialogue to visualize customer desires.
4.
CREATOR BASE: A hub featuring collaborative patches and original embroidered items, providing a variety of motifs to personalize choices.
A Vision for Sustainable Expression
CEO Taku Hosokawa emphasizes that PATCH&PLAY is not just about repairing clothes out of obligation but about fostering a love for garments that individuals want to cherish longer. The brand aims to create a space reflecting each person’s uniqueness while providing a valuable framework to redefine waste and excess inventory into something meaningful.
Last year, PATCH&PLAY showcased its innovative approach at the Osaka-Kansai Expo by presenting repair demonstrations, highlighting the potential of upcycling. In 2023, they also implemented workshops and exhibitions designed to engage diverse generations in the joy of sustainable fashion and creativity. This movement extends beyond one store, steadily growing.
PATCH&PLAY signifies a dialogue rooted in garments, industry evolution, and the warmth of human connection.
