BKPS Launches Power Project in Iraq
BKPS, a subsidiary of Karpowership, is making significant strides towards enhancing energy security in Iraq by initiating a new power generation project. The company has signed a crucial contract with the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity and the General Company for Electric Energy Production, aiming to deliver much-needed electrical power to the region.
This project is set to provide up to 590 megawatts of electricity through two of Karpowership's Signature Powership vessels. The agreement stipulates an initial contract period of 71 days during which BKPS will supply electricity, playing a vital role in stabilizing the national grid and meeting growing demand within the country.
Zeynep Harezi Yılmaz, the Chief Commercial Officer of Karpowership, expressed pride in collaborating with the Iraqi government to enhance the country’s energy resilience. “This initiative is a critical step to bridge the power gap and aligns with our mission of delivering rapid, flexible, and reliable energy where it's most needed,” she stated.
Powerships in Operation
The two Powerships involved in this project will be stationed at the ports of Khor Al Zubair and Umm Qasr in Basra, with a target operational commencement date in August 2025. Designed to run on multiple fuel types, each Powership comes equipped with all necessary infrastructure for electric power generation, providing a cost-effective and rapidly deployable energy solution that circumvents the lengthy construction timelines associated with traditional land-based energy production.
Karpowership has a proven record of offering floating energy solutions globally, operating in 16 countries across four continents. The reliability of their Powership technology presents a scalable solution to bolstering energy security, tailored to operate flexibly with various fuel sources while being instrumental in supporting economic development, particularly in Iraq.
