Carbon EX Selected for Tokyo's Carbon Credit Creation Support Project

Carbon EX Selected for a Groundbreaking Carbon Credit Initiative

Carbon EX Co., Ltd., headquartered in Minato-ku, Tokyo, has recently been chosen for the Tokyo Metropolitan Government's "Carbon Credit Creation Support Program Utilizing Programmatic Projects." This initiative aims to support small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Tokyo in effectively reducing their greenhouse gas emissions.

Overview of the Support Program

The primary purpose of this program is to foster decarbonization among businesses in Tokyo by aggregating the emission reduction efforts of multiple entities. This collaborative approach makes it feasible for even small-scale emission reduction activities, which struggle to be economically viable on their own, to be recognized and transformed into J-Credits (Japanese carbon credits). More details about the program can be found here.

In a time when nearly 420,000 SMEs constitute the backbone of Tokyo's economy, many of these enterprises face significant barriers in reducing their carbon footprint. Key challenges include lack of investment, insufficient personnel, and a scarcity of knowledge on how to effectively document and prove their environmental contributions. In response to these issues, carbon credits can serve as a bridge, converting CO2 reductions into tangible evidence of corporate social responsibility as well as opening up new business opportunities and enhancing competitive advantages.

Project Implementation

As part of this initiative, Carbon EX has selected the implementation of high-efficiency boilers under the methodology EN-S-001, which can be applied across various industries including manufacturing, laundry services, healthcare, hospitality, and food service. This broad applicability allows many businesses in the region to easily participate, pooling their efforts to achieve significant decarbonization impacts that would be unattainable individually. Through forming a consortium, Carbon EX is set to lead the execution of J-Credit creation.

Over the years, Carbon EX has established a comprehensive framework for carbon credit creation, certification, trading, and distribution through its own carbon credit exchange. Currently, over 1,700 companies are registered, and the company boasts a sales record of approximately 1.3 million tons of carbon credits. Additionally, Carbon EX is actively participating in the Green Transformation (GX) league, where it contributes its extensive expertise to the collective effort in promoting a carbon-neutral society.

Future Prospects

Through this project, Carbon EX aims to expand the environment in which SMEs can feasibly engage in decarbonization and create opportunities for enhancing corporate value through J-Credit generation. The company plans to widen its range of applicable industries, increase the participation of companies, and enhance reduction methodologies to further accelerate the implementation of GX at the community level.

Carbon EX aspires to bring the slogan "Small Reductions, Big Impact!" to fruition. Continued collaboration with businesses, financial institutions, and local governments will be crucial as the company works toward contributing to a carbon-neutral society.
