NEXUS 25: Celebrating 25 Years of Insight and Innovation
On September 12th, 2025, the Japan CFO Association, a leading community in the realm of finance and accounting, will mark its 25th anniversary with a special commemorative event titled
NEXUS 25. This occasion will not only celebrate our past accomplishments but also explore profound questions that transcend time, addressing the evolution of the CFO role and envisioning the future of corporate leadership.
Reflecting on 2500 Years of Wisdom
The roots of corporate governance trace back 2500 years to Mesopotamia, where the concept of accountability began to shape civilization. Fast forward to 250 years ago, during the Industrial Revolution, where double-entry bookkeeping transformed into the corporate governance language. Fast forward another quarter-century, and in Japan, the role of the CFO emerged—a role that has seen remarkable evolution. From merely being a custodian of finances, the CFO has transformed into a pivotal figure in creating corporate value—an evolution driven by ever-changing market demands.
Yet, as we commemorate 25 years, we stand at a crossroads, facing challenges that question not only our approaches to management but also the essence of humanity itself in this evolving landscape. The tensions of geopolitical shift, reevaluating our relationship with nature, and the redefinition of human identity in the age of AI highlight the urgency of new perspectives.
The Next 25 Years
What does the future hold for CFOs and the companies they lead as we project ourselves toward 2050? Will CFOs become the architects of ‘Harmonized Prosperity’, fostering life beyond mere financial gains? Or will they spearhead further transformative changes in the corporate landscape? As we gather at this forum, we must reflect on how everyone can awaken to become true value creators in the coming civilization.
Keynote Speakers and Insights
Leading the charge at our anniversary event will be
Eiichi Hashimoto, Chairman of Nippon Steel Corporation. Through his keynote address, he will guide us in connecting past knowledge with future insights and exploring the new corporate philosophies vital in the modern business climate. Following the keynote, an engaging special dialogue will unfold, featuring Masanori Oguchi, Chairman of the Japan CFO Association, alongside other notable CFOs who will share their visions of the future of management and the evolving role of CFOs toward 2050.
The event will also include a dynamic panel discussion titled,
“NEXUS 25 – Wisdom of 2500 Years, 25 Years of Practice, Awakening to 2050.” This discussion focuses on re-defining corporate value beyond simply preserving financial capital, addressing how we can integrate values of coexistence and human capital into a new paradigm of success.
