The Raymond Corporation Marking 75 Years of Reach-Fork Innovation and Looking Ahead
Celebrating 75 Years of Innovation at The Raymond Corporation
On September 16, 2026, The Raymond Corporation proudly celebrates a significant milestone: the 75th anniversary of its pioneering Reach-Fork® Truck patent. This innovative material handling vehicle redefined warehouse operations and set new industry standards for narrow aisle configuration. The anniversary is not just a reminder of where the company began but also a testament to its ongoing commitment to innovation and customer-centric solutions.
The inception of the Reach-Fork Truck can be traced back to the challenges presented by e-commerce’s evolving demands in the 1940s. During this time, a consultant from the grocery industry highlighted issues regarding wide aisle warehousing, which consumed excessive floor space for lift truck maneuvering. George Raymond Sr., the company’s founder, recognized the potential for a solution that would not only optimize storage but would also allow businesses to maximize their operational capacity within existing warehouse footprints.
Enter Christian D. Gibson, a visionary engineer whose work culminated in a groundbreaking design. On August 14, 1951, the momentous U.S. patent for a power-driven narrow aisle material handling truck was awarded, paving the way for the release of the Reach-Fork Truck. This revolutionary design enabled operators to easily traverse aisles measuring less than 7 feet in width, allowing for vertical stacking of pallets and thereby increasing overall storage density.
Over the past 75 years, the Reach-Fork Truck has evolved significantly. The Raymond Corporation has progressively incorporated modern technologies into its design, such as telematics and connected technologies that enhance operational visibility and intelligence.
