Accessibility Services, Inc. (ASI) has announced a groundbreaking advancement in patient healthcare communication with the launch of their BT RemoteSwitch. This Bluetooth-enabled nurse call adapter is specifically designed to assist patients with severe mobility limitations, enabling them to call for help without needing to rely on others to notice or interpret their needs.

Breaking Barriers in Patient Assistance

Traditional nurse call systems require physical button presses, which can create significant barriers for individuals suffering from conditions such as high cervical spinal cord injuries, ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), severe cerebral palsy, and traumatic brain injuries. These barriers hinder patients from effectively communicating their needs, often leaving them in vulnerable situations.

The BT RemoteSwitch addresses these challenges by connecting seamlessly with commonly used devices like iPhones, iPads, Android phones, or Android tablets. It interfaces with existing nurse call infrastructure via a quarter-inch jack or standard hospital wall adapters. As a result, patients can request assistance using familiar tools, including TD Snap augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) software, Siri, Google Voice Access, or through specialized buttons or switches.

Simplifying Setup for Caregivers

Setting up the BT RemoteSwitch is straightforward and typically takes between 10 to 15 minutes with no need for modifications to existing facility infrastructure. This feature makes it an ideal supplement to traditional nurse call methods and safety protocols, enhancing the overall safety and independence of patients.

Brice Green, VP of Business Development at ASI, emphasized the importance of patient needs in developing this solution: "We started by asking patients what they needed. Too many people with conditions like ALS or spinal cord injuries were locked out of basic independence."

The BT RemoteSwitch is perfect for various healthcare settings including hospitals, rehabilitation facilities, home care providers, and senior living communities. Typically, caregivers, Assistive Technology Specialists, or Speech-Language Pathologists handle the setup.

In conjunction with the device, ASI offers the BT RemoteSwitch app, available for download on the Apple App Store and Google Play, further enhancing the communication experience for users.

ASI is set to debut the BT RemoteSwitch at the upcoming ALS Nexus Conference, facilitated by The ALS Association from August 23 to 26, 2026, in Orlando, Florida.
