Yamato Transport Launches e-TranSpot: A New App for Carriers' Safety Management

Introduction

Yamato Transport Co., Ltd., based in Chuo-ku, Tokyo, has announced the launch of a new service aimed at supporting safety management for light cargo vehicle carriers, including those using 'white license plates'. Starting from June 9, 2026, the service named e-TranSpot integrates specialized onboard devices with a user-friendly smartphone application. This innovative platform promises to digitize and centralize various driver activity records, while also incorporating automatic calculations of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

Background of e-TranSpot

As the demand for e-commerce continues to escalate, the number of light cargo vehicles has risen annually. However, this increase has unfortunately led to a growing number of serious accidents involving these vehicles. In response to this alarming trend, a new system for appointing 'Safety Managers' for light cargo vehicle operations is set to be established in April 2024. These Safety Managers will be tasked with a wide range of responsibilities, including overseeing driver conduct, training, the formulation and implementation of safety plans, and maintaining operational records. However, many of these tasks are still managed through outdated analog methods, presenting a significant challenge in terms of efficiency.

Moreover, local governments and private enterprises using 'white license plates' are also facing increased scrutiny regarding alcohol checks and environmental measures as society shifts towards decarbonization.

Overview of e-TranSpot

The e-TranSpot service utilizes a dedicated onboard device alongside a smartphone app to facilitate the digitalization and centralized management of legally mandated operational and call records. Prior to its official launch, a trial run was conducted from February 2026 in collaboration with Kind Dogs Co., Ltd. and Fujisawa City in Kanagawa Prefecture. This trial provided invaluable insights and helped to tailor the service to better meet real-world needs and challenges.

Features of e-TranSpot

1. Compliance Support and Reduced Daily Workload
The app automatically generates operational reports based on real-time tracking data collected from the onboard device. Drivers can input records of daily vehicle inspections, alcohol checks, and other necessary data directly into the app, facilitating a paperless environment and centralized management. Additionally, if a driver's license expires, the app will restrict its use, preventing compliance violations and easing the administrative burden on both drivers and safety managers.

2. Promotion of Safe Driving and Optimization of Resources
The system detects hazardous driving behaviors, such as sudden acceleration or deceleration, by monitoring throttle and brake activity. By incorporating these insights into operational reports, drivers have the opportunity to reflect on their driving patterns post-journey, fostering a culture of safety awareness. Furthermore, the app visualizes daily vehicle usage, assisting managers in optimizing resources and enhancing efficiency.

3. Environmental Engagement through GHG Emission Visualization
e-TranSpot automatically calculates GHG emissions based on distance traveled and fuel efficiency data, drastically simplifying what would have been a complex manual calculation. This feature not only supports eco-driving initiatives but also enables timely responses to data requests from shipper companies concerning GHG emissions.

Note: The development and operational implementation of the e-TranSpot service has been supported by Smart Value Co., Ltd. The project also receives backing from the NEDO (New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization), as part of its Green Innovation Fund project aimed at constructing smarter mobility societies.

Future Prospects

Yamato Transport remains committed to expanding its lineup of services tailored to meet the evolving needs of its users. They aim to facilitate effective safety management and environmental strategies for businesses operating vehicle fleets.
