Explore the New 3D Virtual Tour of the Lord Ashcroft VC and GC Gallery
On November 11, 2025, a brand-new 3D virtual tour of the Lord Ashcroft VC and GC Gallery was unveiled, coinciding with Armistice Day. This innovative tour is now accessible via a dedicated website, following the recent closure of the gallery located in the Imperial War Museum (IWM) in London.
For the past four decades, Lord Ashcroft has amassed the world’s largest collection of Victoria Crosses, comprising over 240 decorations, and a smaller collection of George Crosses, which are among the most prestigious honors in Britain and the Commonwealth. The physical exhibition at the IWM displayed these remarkable medals for the past 15 years; however, due to controversial decisions to refocus the museum’s themes, the gallery was shut down on September 30 of this year.
Lord Ashcroft expressed his deep disappointment upon learning of the closure; however, the outcry from the public prompted him to take action. He stated, "When I discovered how many others were also heartbroken about the gallery's closure, I decided to take steps to create an alternative. Today, I am excited to unveil this extraordinary virtual tour in 3D, which serves as the best solution we could find in place of keeping the gallery open at the IWM. I would like to thank everyone who worked hard over the months to create this wonderful project."
This new virtual gallery tells countless inspiring tales of bravery, covering major wars and conflicts over the last 170 years, starting from the Crimean War, which ultimately led to the establishment of the Victoria Cross.
While the IWM shifts its focus to contemporary themes of diversity among other subjects, the virtual platform founded by Lord Ashcroft showcases courage, highlighting the stories of those who have received the VC and GC, whom he affectionately refers to as 'the bravest of the brave'. His VC collection is notable for including one of only three VCs and bars, equivalent to two VCs, awarded since its inception by Queen Victoria in 1856, to acknowledge exceptional valor.
The virtual tour is a key feature of LordAshcroftMedalCollection.com and will eventually offer comprehensive details about all of Lord Ashcroft’s medal collections. In addition to his VC and GC medal groups, Lord Ashcroft owns a notable collection of special forces medals and decorations for air bravery.
Looking ahead, Lord Ashcroft is exploring various possibilities for re-exhibiting his VC and GC collections, along with his other medals for public appreciation in the years to come. Any future announcements regarding new exhibitions will be made via his new website, ensuring that these remarkable accolades of valor are accessible to a wide audience.
For the last 20 years, Lord Ashcroft has passionately advocated for valor. He has delivered numerous lectures on bravery and authored seven books in the "Heroes" series, many of which draw from his impressive medal collections.
