Viettel's Recognition by Gartner Marks Vietnam as a 5G Technology Leader

Viettel's Historic Recognition in 5G Technology

In an impressive turn of events, Viettel High Tech has achieved a commendable recognition from Gartner, appearing in the distinguished Magic Quadrant for CSP 5G RAN Infrastructure Solutions 2025. This acknowledgment not only elevates Viettel's status but also marks a significant milestone for Vietnam in the global technology landscape, showcasing the country's progressive foray into next-generation telecommunications.

Held during the Open RAN Connect 2025 international event in the heart of Hanoi, the announcement signals Viettel’s prominent role in evolving telecommunications infrastructure. The Gartner's Magic Quadrant serves as a reputable global assessment tool, reflecting on companies based on their Completeness of Vision and Ability to Execute. Notably, Viettel stands out as the only representative from Southeast Asia this year, being recognized as a Niche Player, thanks to its groundbreaking achievements in commercializing 5G Open RAN base stations based on ASIC chipsets.

Viettel's robust 5G ecosystem has been conceptualized, designed, and manufactured entirely in-house. Their impressive network infrastructure already caters to tens of millions of customers, facilitating access through various technologies including optical and Wi-Fi devices and thousands of transmission systems. The advanced billing, service, and voice platforms support over 190 million global customers, showcasing the vast reach and capability of Viettel's telecom solutions.

Nguyen Vu Ha, Deputy General Director of Viettel Group, highlighted the significance of their accomplishment stating, “Viettel is the world's first telecom operator to successfully launch 5G Open RAN with performance standards that rival those set by leading global vendors. We remain dedicated to providing top-quality solutions to mobile network operators globally.”

In the year 2025 alone, Viettel has established an impressive 2,500 5G stations across various provinces like Hanoi, Ninh Binh, Gia Lai, Lam Dong, Khanh Hoa, and Dak Lak. Viettel's high-performance equipment, developed in alignment with international open standards, has expanded into international markets, effectively catering to locations including India, UAE, and Turkey. Initial analysis indicates that Viettel’s 5G stations provide superior coverage, significantly higher capacity, and up to 24% energy savings compared to equivalent equipment in the market.

Looking into the future, Viettel is poised to continue its commitment to advanced 5G technologies, diving into 6G research and exploring network virtualization while ensuring openness and compatibility through proactive engagement in the O-RAN Alliance. Nguyen Minh Quang, General Director of Viettel High Tech, expressed his sentiments, stating, “This Gartner acknowledgment is a significant career milestone for Viettel after over a decade of strategic investment and innovation in telecom infrastructure. It lays the groundwork for Vietnam to accelerate advancements in strategic technology areas such as AI, IoT, big data, blockchain, and semiconductors, while simultaneously fortifying Viettel's global technology ecosystem.”

Ultimately, this recognition not only champions Viettel's contributions to the telecommunications sector but also positions Vietnam firmly on the technological world map, heralding a future filled with innovation and advancement in communication technology.
