RecoChoku's Innovative Music Experience at Maker Faire Tokyo 2025

RecoChoku, a pioneering music distribution service based in Shibuya, Tokyo, is excited to announce its participation in the upcoming Maker Faire Tokyo 2025, scheduled for October 4-5 at Tokyo Big Sight. This marks the company's third consecutive appearance at the largest DIY exhibition in Japan, and they are ready to unveil an even more engaging experience this year.

Introducing 'Chameleon Notes 2'

The highlight of this year's exhibit is the latest version of their AI-powered lyric game, 'Chameleon Notes 2'. Following its predecessor's successful debut in 2024, this innovative game creates a unique songwriting opportunity that captivates both adults and children alike. Participants will embark on an interactive journey where their gameplay influences song lyrics, allowing for a collaborative creation of music in real-time.

Gameplay Mechanics

Using a handheld controller, players engage in a target-hitting game that determines keywords like seasons and emotions. Based on these inputs, the AI generates original song lyrics accompanied by a melody, producing a song that lasts about 30 seconds. Participants can then view results including the title, lyrics, and album artwork on the screen, accompanied by a vocal performance.

Adding to the excitement, RecoChoku’s 3D characters, 'RecoChoku-ma' and the original character 'Leon-kun', will dance along to the newly created songs. After each session, players can download their unique tracks and album covers via a QR code for personal enjoyment.

Technology Behind the Experience

The development of 'Chameleon Notes 2' utilizes various cutting-edge technologies, including AI systems like RecoChat and OpenAI Assistants API, Arduino (M5Stick), RFID technology, as well as 3D rendering and modeling tools like Unity, Fusion 360, Blender, and Nomad Sculpt. This fusion of software and hardware development is a hallmark of RecoChoku’s NX Development Division, which focuses on designing new experiences that enhance human connection with music.

A Sneak Peek at the Experience

Ahead of the event, a demo session was held on September 10 at the Shibuya Mirai Design's 'Future Library'. Over 20 elementary school students participated, showing great enthusiasm as they played the game and watched lyrics unfold from their gameplay. This early preview provided a glimpse into how children can engage with music in a fun and educational way, generating curiosity and passion for songwriting.
