Socfin Unveils 2026-2031 Sustainability Strategy and Responsible Management Policy
In a significant move towards enhancing its sustainable practices, the Socfin Group recently unveiled its Sustainability Strategy for the period of 2026-2031, along with an updated Responsible Management Policy (RMP). This agro-industrial conglomerate, which specializes in the production of natural rubber and palm oil in Africa and Asia, sought to define a clear path for its environmental, social, and governance goals leading up to 2031.
The newly released Strategy outlines five key priorities that will guide the Group's initiatives:
1. Strengthening Governance and Transparency: Ensuring robust governance frameworks to promote accountability.
2. Protecting Nature and Climate: Working towards mitigating environmental impacts and adapting to climate change.
3. Empowering People and Communities: Fostering social development and supporting community engagement.
4. Building Responsible and Traceable Supply Chains: Enhancing transparency throughout the supply chain to ensure ethical practices.
5. Driving ESG Performance: Focusing on environmental, social, and governance metrics to enhance overall sustainability outcomes.
These priorities are pivotal in addressing critical areas, including biodiversity preservation, human rights, supply chain traceability, data reliability for ESG reporting, and strategic partnerships. The updated RMP aligns with international norms such as the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and incorporates principles from the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) and the Global Platform for Sustainable Natural Rubber (GPSNR).
The implementation of these strategies will follow a phased roadmap that charts the path towards compliance, structure, and strengthened commitments from 2026 to 2027. This will be followed by deployment and consolidation efforts from 2028 to 2029, culminating in a focus on performance tracking and continuous improvement from 2030 to 2031.
Céline Schmitz, the Head of Sustainability at Socfin, expressed the importance of this strategy: “This roadmap provides a clear direction for the next phase of our sustainability journey. It integrates our environmental, social, and governance priorities into a unified approach and strengthens the connection between our commitments, their implementation, and how we measure progress across the Group.”
Founded in 1905, Socfin has established itself as a seasoned player in the tropical agriculture sector, with its activities primarily concentrated in rubber and palm oil production. The Group operates in ten countries across Africa and Asia, leveraging decades of agricultural development experience. As consumers worldwide become increasingly conscious of sustainability, Socfin’s proactive approach to sustainability demonstrates its dedication to responsible practices that not only benefit the company but also the communities and ecosystems it impacts. By adhering to these ambitious goals, Socfin reaffirms its role as a leader in responsible agro-industrial development, aiming to contribute positively to both local and global sustainability efforts.
