CGI Sets a New Standard as First Digital Services Firm to Earn Sustainable IT Level 2 Across Europe and Morocco

CGI Achieves Landmark Sustainable IT Certification

In a significant achievement for the digital services sector, CGI (TSX: GIB.A) (NYSE: GIB) has become the first major company to be awarded the Sustainable IT label - Level 2, extending its recognition across Europe and Morocco. This certification aligns with CGI's commitment to responsible digital practices and environmental sustainability.

Overview of the Sustainable IT Label

The Sustainable IT label is a recognition established by the Institut du Numérique Responsable in collaboration with the French Ministry of Ecological Transition and other stakeholders. It acknowledges organizations that actively adopt ethical practices in their technology operations and strive to minimize their ecological footprint. CGI had previously earned the Level 1 label in 2022, demonstrating its ongoing progress in digital responsibility.

Caroline de Grandmaison, President of CGI for France and Luxembourg, emphasized this achievement, stating, "Obtaining the Level 2 Numérique Responsable label demonstrates our ongoing commitment to a more responsible digital technology." This statement highlights CGI's proactive measures, including training 9,000 employees in eco-design practices and partnerships with major clients like EDF to develop sustainable solutions.

The Certification Process

The assessment for the Level 2 label was rigorous, involving a comprehensive audit conducted by Baker Tilly on behalf of the LUCIE agency. The evaluation examined CGI’s operations based on 52 criteria divided into five key areas:
1. Strategy and Governance: Integrating digital responsibility into the company’s strategy and formalizing a dedicated policy.
2. Supporting Digital Responsibility: Engaging both internal and external stakeholders in the responsible digital initiative and fostering skills in this domain.
3. Lifecycle Management of Digital Services: Promoting sustainability from the purchasing phase, through to equipment and software management, ensuring responsible practices are adhered to throughout the service lifecycle.
4. Extending Responsible Digital Practices: Encouraging the sharing of resources and knowledge while utilizing digital technology as a means for positive action.
5. External Levers: Promoting responsible digital services through commercial offerings, further enhancing the improvement of services over time.

Upon completion of the audit, CGI initiated a three-year action plan aimed at embedding responsible design principles into their customer offerings, aligning with more extensive training goals. The firm is also focusing on adopting standards for responsible artificial intelligence.

Commitment to Environmental Impact

CGI's certification is more than just a badge; it reflects a commitment to ongoing improvement in reducing environmental impact. The company aims to monitor the concrete outcomes of its strategies by assessing the environmental footprint of its projects periodically. This dedication resonates across CGI's global workforce of 91,000 employees, presenting a model for how the IT and consulting sectors can actively participate in the global effort towards sustainability.

By securing the Sustainable IT label - Level 2, CGI has positioned itself as a leader in integrating ethical considerations into digital transformation, serving as an example for others in the industry. As CGI continues to innovate within the constraints of ecological responsibility, the journey towards a more sustainable digital future seems promising.
