Sinopec Donates 1,000 Books to Cairo University Promoting Cultural Exchange

On November 16, 2025, the China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation, widely known as Sinopec, made a significant contribution by donating 1,000 carefully selected books to Cairo University. This event coincided with the launch of the 'Silk Road Book House - China Bookshelf' initiative, which aims to strengthen cultural exchanges between China and Egypt through literature and educational resources.

The collection, jointly curated by Sinopec and Cairo University, includes a wide array of topics ranging from traditional Chinese culture to modern studies in finance, economics, digital marketing, and Chinese language education. This initiative follows a similar donation made in 2023, further underlining Sinopec's commitment to enhancing cultural dialogue through accessible literature.

The launch ceremony was graced by several dignitaries, including Lu Chunsheng, the Minister Counsellor at the Chinese Embassy in Egypt, and Yu Yongsheng, General Manager of Sinopec’s Branding Department. In attendance were over 260 professors and students from Cairo University, emphasizing the importance of this endeavor in fostering educational growth and intercultural comprehension.

During the ceremony, Lu Chunsheng expressed the profound role of books in recording and enriching culture, stating that mutual understanding is essential for cooperative learning between civilizations. He emphasized that without cultural interactions, there can be no genuine understanding or cooperation. The act of sharing books represents a crucial channel for cultural exchange, laying strong foundations for dialogue between different civilizations. Lu underlined that initiatives like this are crucial in promoting understanding and cooperation between China and Egypt, contributing positively to a shared future for humanity.

Yu Yongsheng echoed Lu's sentiments, emphasizing Sinopec's role as a responsible global corporation committed to social responsibility. He elaborated on Sinopec's involvement in international education, culture, and community development since initiating the 'Silk Road Book House - China Bookshelf' project in 2019, which has already distributed over 12,000 books across eight countries. Yu expressed his eagerness to enhance university-business collaboration with Cairo University, noting the potential for educational partnerships to flourish.

Professor Naglaa Raafat, Dean of the Faculty of Arts at Cairo University, commended this initiative as a meaningful partnership. She pointed out that Sinopec's donation goes beyond mere book provision; it establishes a vibrant platform for cultural exchange. Raafat acknowledged the longstanding cooperation between the faculty and various Chinese partners, which has already encompassed many projects related to China. She expressed hope that this event would mark the beginning of more extensive collaborations across multiple disciplines, highlighting the inseparability of economic, educational, and cultural exchanges.

Through this substantial donation, Sinopec not only enriches the academic resources available at Cairo University but also plays a decisive role in building bridges of understanding and friendship between China and Egypt, ultimately benefiting students and professors alike. Such initiatives are not just acts of goodwill; they are strategic moves towards nurturing future collaborations and enhancing the educational experience for thousands.

As we look towards the future, the significance of Sinopec's contributions will likely echo beyond books, fostering an enriched cultural landscape that facilitates greater cooperation and understanding in an increasingly interconnected world.
